Absolutely awesome video and performance. Thanks for posting it.
This is my most favorite song in the world and it has been ever since I heard it as a little kid way back in 1971. The audience exuberance and wanting to express their profound appreciation to Gord between each verse is very cool, but there is a flipside -- part of what makes the song so beautiful is the way Gord's incredibly talented band plays between the verses. That gets covered up by the spontaneous hoots and applause between verses. |

yeah, nice video, thanks for posting...audience enthusiasm is uplifting in this case and the captivating close up frame is a refreshing change...Gord is usually the size of a cricket on stage for most of the bootleg cellphone youtube videos out there |

the only time i can appreciate that sort of response is during those outdoor festival atmosphere concerts such as the Live 8 IYCRMM between verse enthusiasm...you'll always find at least one Mr. Hoot 'n Holler at those venues...the taser really has to be reserved for the "white rhythm" clap-a-longs during Sundown, Carefree Highway, Baby Step Back, etc...somewhere in a prior thread I had found a link to someone actually trying to clap along to Beautiful:clap:

Very cool - even with the unnecessary audience behavior. As someone stated above - by doing this, they miss all of the great music fills + deny the rest of us the opportunity to hear it once again. (save it for Hooter's for God's sake!).

My own personal observation, now having in 3 years been to a whopping (for me, anyway) 16  of GL and the band's performances ...that this sort of audience response/behavior occurs more oft than not where alcohol flows more freely, and when it's a Fri or Sat night! Perhaps I could throw in the more 'stoic' type venues -this may occur less (like rather than an alochol-serving, outdoor venue)?
I too, prefer to relish entire songs without interruption - and have been fortunate to have the opportunity to attend enough performances to have had the pleasure more than once :). |

The ultimate for me was seeing Lightfoot at the Niagara Casino a couple of years ago and a couple behind me were chatting through the whole show. Finally someone behind them piped up and told them to shut up. The woman reached back and slapped the guy in the face. A fight almost broke out before cooler heads prevailed.
A little before that, at a Massey Hall show, the guy beside me decided to play Lightfoot karaoke and sang along to everything The Man was doing. I just can't get any peace. |

I too am appalled at some of the audience behaviors at a GL concert.
Given the casino setting though, maybe it's to be expected. Gord doesn't look upset by it. Gord always seems to 'save' his voice for this song in every show. I've been to 13 shows and have never heard him give a weak performance of IYCRMM. One show - can't remember now where- I could almost hear my own heartbeat, the audience was so quiet. |
Re: Video-IYCRMM Twin River Casino, Lincoln, R.I.
i just realized that the videographer wasn't zoomed in on Gord (wondered how he or she stayed so reasonable steady without tripod)
they were actually taking video of a video of Gord projected onto a big screen |
