Duffy-First Cut Is The Deepest.

Re: Duffy-First Cut Is The Deepest.
It's funny, every time I hear her sing it hits me how odd her voice and style of singing is.
But, I always end up liking her songs. :) Thanks for sharing this. |
Re: Duffy-First Cut Is The Deepest.
Thanks for this beautiful version... Im certain it would make "Cat Stevens" very happy, made him a lot of money, that's for sure...

Re: Duffy-First Cut Is The Deepest.
It certainly is a great song by the artist once known as Cat
I first became aware of it when a couple of years ago Lite-FM of New York featured heavily on their playlist the version by the raspy voiced Rod Stewart later the same radio station changed to Sheryl's version Duffy's version is also interesting, fortunately the ever posing pianist/orchestra leader (Jools Holland) is for once quite restrained |

Cat Stevens aka...Yusuf Islam.

Re: Duffy-Thought I'd put in another song by her.

and I'm glad this Duffy appeals to you:) ...I might be alone on this and she might be one of those artists that is an acquired taste (like broccoli) but I am almost entirely missing the talent (vocal and/or stage) that many are apparently finding in her..I mean check out the size of her following in this crowd! Crow's rich cover version is still pretty fresh to me, and I wish an entire decade (minimum) would pass before other artists would have a go at a classic such as this...but I'm sure, like Gord, Cat never heard a cover he didn't like, lol btw, I still don't like broccoli ;) |
Re: Duffy-First Cut Is The Deepest.
Well, see...I love broccoli...lol.
Duffy's appeal is limited, just like any other artist, jj. I wouldn't want to buy a ticket to one of her conerts but I do like some of her songs. She is odd, has an odd voice and mannerisms when she sings, but I guess that's why I like her. She isn't a cardboard cutout like so many performers are today. Sheryl Crow...lovely lady and great artist. I love a lot of her offerings. She is more classic, kind of like meat and potatoes. Her music will be around long after the broccoli is wilted. :) |
Re: Duffy-First Cut Is The Deepest.
lol, good one...actually i can stomach broccoli as long as someone lays on the cheese:)
if you like the Duff vocal style, you might find this wee, fresh gal from BC quite enjoyable...not sure quite yet if she is cardboard cutout or not http://www.myspace.com/carlyraemusic re the 2nd track, wonder who last covered the Denver classic? |
Re: Duffy-First Cut Is The Deepest.
Sure, jj...cheese makes anything more appealing:)
Okay, I like that little BC girl! Carly Rae Jepsen can sing well and seems to have a nice vocal range. Yeah, 'Sunshine on My Shoulder'...I love that song and she does a really nice, all though different, version of it. :) Thanks for the link, jj. |

Re: Duffy-First Cut Is The Deepest.
hey, jjo - I would have booted her off at the 1:05 mark, lol |
Re: Duffy-First Cut Is The Deepest.
lol ! Nice find jj, I still like her. I think she did her best. :)

Re: Duffy-First Cut Is The Deepest.
Oh my gosh, Jesse Joe. That doesn't even look like Cat Stevens...lol. He looks about 12 in those first pictures.
It's nice that he had different dogs with him. I can see his inspiration for "I love my Dog" :) Ohhhhh, Elena, well, that wasn't near as good as EMR, but still better than a lot of the singers that we get on American Idol. Some of them are truly awful...lol. America's Got Talent is even worse. Of course, they all sing much better than I do so I shouldn't complain. :) |
