Comment and Question
I saw Gordon April 2 here in Peoria. While I thought the concert was great, it seemed that Gordon was struggling a bit. I was wondering if he just had a bad day... had a cold or something or if he is losing his voice strength. If so, that's okay, after all Father Time catches up with all of us. But I was just wondering if anyone had any insight.
Questions? Is there any way find out what the concert song selections will be prior to a concert... how they are selected... and is there a venue to request that certain songs be done? The last two concerts I have attended (past Peoria concert and a year and 1/2 ago in Aurora, Ill.) there were two numbers that was not done... Canadian Trilogy and his medley of For Loving Me/Did She Mention My Name. I see he his scheduled for Joliet, Ill. later this year and fully intend on being there. Any replies would be appreciated. |
Re: Comment and Question
he doesnt play For Loving Me anymore. apparently he doesnt like the song anymore and said it was cringe-worthy
usually the song selection is pretty similar for every concert. there are some tunes that are interchanged through the shows, and there is a selection that get played every show. |
Re: Comment and Question
If you look at Tour Dates 2008 by Wayne Francis from the Home Page of this site you can check out setlists from most recent shows. Click on the S next to the show and the setlist will be displayed. You can see that he keeps most of his "big hits" in the rotation and most are played at each and every show. Then there are some others mixed in. Check it out and you will get a good idea of what to expect.

Even the orchestra are not completely clued in on what will be played in any particular concert beyond the fact that it must be presumed that they keep in practice at playing whatever songs are in Gord's current rotation list but they are so skillful and accustomed to adapting to anything that crops up, such as an impromptu reaction by Gord to yelled out requests from the audience that a setlist would appear to be largely meaningless and therfore superfluous The song list currently "on rotation" changes very slightly. (earlier this year two old songs were welcomingly reinstated being "If Children Had Wings" and "My Little Love" but the latter was dropped at all 4 Massey shows recently) In compensation we were of course treated to a double dose of Carefree Highway!! Gord certainly always seems to have a small piece of paper taped to his guitar, which might well be an aide-memoire of songs he intends to do. Whether he does CRT at any concert probably has more to do with how he is feeling as it is obviously a challenging song to get through in Gord's usual perfectionist manner I personally really do wish that the band could rehearse at least one old song not played for a long time before each leg of his annual concert tour . I do hope he and the band have taken note of the great appreciation that has been expressed for the rare airing of "If Children Had Wings" |
