song for a winter night
Br-r-r!
Love that song, ah, but, I am getting used to the comfort of warm as I get older. For those of us who love it: What is your most memorable part of this song? Mine is the sleigh bells, it just combines so beautifully with the "atmosphere" (ah, call it ambience if you will) of this song. In other words what part of this song gets you and makes you want to slow down and listen? |
Re: song for a winter night
"I would be happy just to hold the hands I love
On this winter night with you". :) |
Re: song for a winter night
Yes, that is a powerful statement. What a beautiful verse. How romantic can a guy get?
I gotta hand it to Gord, he knows how to clearly speak the volumes of wisdom contained in his heart. |
Re: song for a winter night
In general, I think that this particular song, from the first word to the last, is one of the best examples of Gord's talent for imagery. You can see in your mind's eye the lonely cabin, its solitary inhabitant, the oil lamp, the "snow softly falling" etc.

Yes Gwen. It's a great song, but the sleigh bells make it one-of-a-kind and unforgettable. :)

Re: song for a winter night
I love the entire song but it always makes me feel a kind of sweet sadness when he sings "if I could know it in my heart...that you are lonely too"....
I think it's pretty safe to say that all of us hope that someone we miss and are longing for could be somewhere out there 'missing' us too. It's such a great song...one of my favorites. |
Re: song for a winter night
My favorite Gord song. I also love the entire song, from the first note to the last fading sleighbell at the end. From the first word to the last.

I just listened to SFAWN this morning in the car. It's in my top five, if not favorite, Gord song. The sleigh bells, the lyrics, the imagery...everything...I love it.

Re: song for a winter night
He hears her voice softly calling..yet she's not there..
and leading up to "if I could know within my heart, that you were lonely too" is the sad yearning for him to be able to read what is not written: "I read again between the lines upon the page"... breaks my heart every time...alone with the unknown.. and those bells.. |

CHar, oh yeah, that is the truth about that loneliness...
Additionally, his "if I could only have you here to breathe a sigh or two" at one time this seems anticipatory and "gaga, I'm so head over"... but, blend in Gahoendoe's video (vistory/vidstory) and it combines quite properly with Gord's lyric's. Man, nice |

Gahoendoe,
thanks for that video...I really love it. I have a thing about hands...I always notice that about a person. I love all the different images of the elderly, young and inbetween handholding. Really, very lovely images. |
