The only song Gord remixed?

Although there's been different songs that Gord has rerecorded (had different musical instruments the 2nd time around, but otherwise sang the songs over again with the same lyrics), in the remake of The Way I Feel, he actually adds lyrics at the end of the song. They go something like "Gonna spread my wings, "I'll fly away" (I don't remember EXACTLY how they went), but it wasn't done in the original.

This remixing is pretty common with songs nowadays (mainly the rappers), but I didn't know it had been done back in the 60's. Has Gord (or anyone else from that time) ever 'remixed' songs in this manner?

Actually,I believe he re-sang the song and added that last little bit of lyric, although it does sound like a re-mix.
I could be wrong though. If it is re-mixed,it's a heck of a good job for mid-1960s. :)

I still prefer the original.

That's what I thought remixing was... adding/subtracting lyrics, instead of just singing them over again. I'm pretty sure Gord resang the song though. ;)

There were single remixes of WOTEF, Sundown, IYCRMM, etc...shorter versions, with string sections, without, etc...

Re: The only song Gord remixed?

The second appearance of The Way I Feel was a re-recording. It was an attempt to recast the song to make it a hit single. (Didn't work, and Gord chuckled about that even at the time).

The single remixes of IYCRMM and Sundown are available on CD; IYCRMM on Gord's Gold and Complete Greatest Hits, and Sundown on Complete Greatest Hits only. Bill Inglot, who did the remastering for all the Rhino releases, was very excited to be able to remaster the single version of Sundown, although so far nobody (among those of us with a good ear) is certain of the difference (from the album version). With IYCRMM it's easy to distinguish because the single version has harmony vocals (by Gord). Even I can hear that (although, in all honesty, I didn't notice until somebody else pointed it out). I was a musicial neophyte when I became a Gord fan, and have learned a lot along the way, including how to listen to music.

For the non-musicians among us (and I am one of those), remixing is re-combining the individual tracks. In it's simplest form, one can add or subtract a track (like the harmony vocals, recorded separately from the lead vocals), as well as change the relative prominence of the tracks. Or one could use a totally new track for, say, the lead vocals, or for part of them, thus changing even the lyrics sung. With the Lightfoot remixes, they are usually just subtle differences in the overall sound; in the case of Sundown, far too subtle for my ears. In the case of Wreck, the single was made shorter (for radio play), obviously leaving out a few musical measures along the way.

For what it's worth, another song resang (as opposed to remixed) was "The Circle is Small." There were quite a few years between the original version (from Back Here on Earth, I think?) and the new version (on the Endless Wire album) so the two versions sound quite different from each other. This song also made it onto the Songbook collection with the new version representing.

The difference betwen the '68 "Circle" and '78 "Circle" is actually about 9 years. Strictly speaking of when they were recorded,1968's was recorded in September and the new version was recorded sometime between Aug. and November of 1977. ;)

I went to this link to get my answer but also if you'e interestd in Gorodn's complete singles output (Canadian & American),as well as petty much his whole life story check out this link:

Also, under the singles list,I edited in a notation about two of Gordon's earl 70s singles that didn't make the American Hot 100. I felt it was worth mentioning, since they didn't.

Happy 40th Anniversary this month to "Did She Mention My Name" by the way.
