There's hope

I've highlighted the relevant parts :

Student Spotlight: Cayce McGuire

•Age: 14
•School: Olympia Waldorf School
•Grade: 8
•Hometown: Tumwater
•Parents: Leslie and Michael McGuire
•Best personal achievements: being able to surround myself with wonderful people in my life
•How I spend my time: I love writing music, and playing guitar. I really enjoy paintball and everything to do with it, and playing football.
•Favorite subject: history
•Favorite book: the Cirque Du Freak series, by Darren Shan
•Favorite movie: "Rambo 1"
•Dream job: police officer
•Someone I respect: my friend Paul Strickland because he is a very strong individual and he cares for everybody. He is always looking out for what's best for me.
•College I'd like to attend: University of Washington

•Someone famous I'd like to meet: Gordon Lightfoot, because his music still continues to inspire me.

•What I'd like to achieve: writing songs and poems that actually touch people and make them think about the world
•Someday looking back on my life, I'd like to be able to say: "Even though life was hard, I still lived it to the fullest."
•Biggest challenge facing teenagers today: lack of understanding that they won't admit
•One thing in the world I would change if I could: just the difficulty to survive
•Teacher comment: "Cayce is an up-and-coming musician. He has always been a leader." Sweekriti Apple, eighth-grade teacher, Olympia Waldorf School

Sweekriti Apple....yep, that's weird.

Let's see.....when I was 14, the famous person I would have liked to meet is Roger Maris.

I'm within days of my 48th birthday. When I was 14 I started playing the guitar and if asked back then, what famous person I wanted to meet, my answer would have been ........ Gordon Lightfoot. And now, my 14 year old son is playing the guitar and one of the highlights of his young life was meeting a famous person ....... Gordon Lightfoot. Who says history doesn't repeat itself? We are all blessed to have had The Man with us, and composing, and performing for all these years.

I Listen To Gordon So Much That My 16 Year Old Daughter Now Enjoys Him, But Not Near As Much As I Do!

My seven year old twins grew up with Gordons music and a few days ago, we heard a cover version from IYCRMM on the radio. My daughter: "Mom, this is Gordon Lightfoot, but it sounds different..."
Poor kids couldn't sing Twinkle, Twinkle Little Star but were perfectly in tune with SDYS..:-)

My 3 3/4 year old son just learned the chorus to Baby step back. Now we have to sing it over and over again in the car. Hope he sticks with it. :)

awwww this is so nice to hear! A whole new generation of Gord fans! My mother had Gord's "The Way I Feel" and "Best of.." albums, so I too was exposed to Gord's music from a young age.

My mother and the rest of us really couldn't listen to anything we wanted to until my brother moved out of the house when he was 18 lol (he's 11 years older than I am). Even though we moved the 'family' turntable down into the basement from the living room...we could still hear whatever he was playing 2 floors above (mostly Beatles...which all of us but my father loved).

We did get a brief respite when what we later referred to as, "The day the music died"...occured. My brother was playing "Wipeout" over and over and one day, my father went upstairs, opened the window and threw my brother's record player out of the 2nd floor window....record and all.

I didn't mind listening to it but our choices of music were limited back then to what my brother was playing! When my brother moved out, my mother moved our turntable back up into the living room and she started buying record albums, including Gords!

My brother Jim did something similar to pod.'s story. I kept playing a "B"side Kool & The Gang song called " Rollin' " becasue I really dug it at the time. He's a meatal fan and he couldn't take it anymore and dragged the needle across my 45!!! :(

Big meanie! :p

I went to high school with the group that did "Wipeout" (the Surfaris). My sister dated Ron Wilson (the one who actually says "HaHaHaHaHaHa - WIPEOUT!" He died about 10 years ago (can't remember from what).
