You and Gord Sing a Duet

We've all sung along to the music. But if you could really sing a duet with Gordon Lightfoot in person, what song would it be?

For me, I'm thinking it would be I'm Not Saying/Ribbon of Darkness... I could definitely see us singing that one together on stage... And actually, I know it would work 'cuz we do it in my car all the time and we sound pretty good!

Well, if he agreed to lower the key a notch or 2 and required no harmonizing, I could probably handle "Somewhere U.S.A.". I hum that one in my truck every time I get lost.

I kind of enjoy singing the high harmony to D.Q or Bitter Green. I don't know if it sounds any good, but it's definitely fun. (I've only tried it in the car so far, too) :)

Hi Ruth, fun post!!!

Let's see, I think I would try Song for a Winter's night. Looks we're all great singers in our car :)

On the recent leg through Rochester, Minneapolis, Duluth, I pulled out Endless Wire which I had not heard in ages.. I smiled singing along on the harmony lines on Daylight Katy, Sweet Guinnevere, and Hangdog.. (I know that's Gord overdubbing his own harmonies there on that album etc.. and I'm not sure anyone did that better (overdubbing their own 3rds and 5ths etc.)).. but if there was, it might very well have been Tammy Wynette (see the original Stand By Your Man album with Billy Sherill (Epic Records; 1968)), Carly Simon and Joni Mitchell of course (try anything in the 70's by either artist).. Bruce Springsteen (listen to Bruce sing with himself on Darkness or Born To Run etc.).. and Elton John actually.. he's a great harmony singer on top of his own voice (see the beautiful tune Blessed, among many other great tracks through the years).. but anyway.. the Endless Wire stuff.. I'd get up there and sing with the Gord.. sure.. (after several beverages).. etc.. ;-)

PS- The buried gem on Endless Wire it struck me that roadtrip.. is a song called If There's a Reason.. geez Gord.. how lovely.. this blue little lullaby.. etc..

The song I play the most often on my guitar, and enjoy to sing is, "Sit Down Young Stranger." :)

Oh funny, this is my fav. too and it's the first song I play when I get my guitar out - almost always!! It's the song which inspired me to learn how to fingerpick. One of the few I can actually sing along without changing the key.

YES! It really is a great song by every means and I love the bridge, just beautiful.
It's always fun to see other Lightheads share your favourites :)

But to answer Gitchigumee's question.

My favourite Gord song as long been 'Seven Island Suite'. But as far as doing a duet w/ him I think it would have to be, 'Alberta Bound.' :)

If it weren't for the fact that I'd make a total fool of myself, I'd probably choose Spanish Moss or Canadian railway Trilogy.

Re: You and Gord Sing a Duet

Assuming he'd d0 3 songs with me (and boy would that be a tough pick!) I'd go with:

1st - Sundown (easy vocal match for me).

2nd - Carefree Highway (same reason)

3rd - End Of All Time (I finally have the lyrics down). ;)

Certainly plenty more I'd like to join in with him on,but I don't have time to make another "list".
