I'm referring to those 1 or 2 CD collections, that give you every (and I do mean "every" ) top 40 hit & then some by any given act.
For example I bought "Essential Hall & Oates" earlier this year and while hearing all of their hits is interesting, some of the songs I've heard are kinda boring or just palin  . Mostly their late 70s out put after "Rich Girl",no musical direction at all. Then there's Essential Santana (1969-1980's),a very good collection and not a stinker in the lot. True, some songs sound just like "Evil Ways" or "Black Magic Woman" but that okay by me. :) So,once again, has anyone else bought one of these nearly $25 sets? (Not box sets, those are more.) |
I tend to go for the single disc Millenium Collections myself. Though the Essential Donovan is tempting me right now.

I would get "Essential Donovan" but I already have all of his hits.
I have his original greatest hits from the late 60's and the "Googoobarbagal" LP (with the hit of the same name). I also bought Cat Stevens "Gold" which is sort of the same as Essentials but leaves of two hits,so i had to buy the original Grestest Hits from 1975. |
