other Canadian. who remembers him and the song Painted Ladies? the intro reminds me of billy Prestons instrumenatl Outta Space. Thomas must been inspired by it.

Not terribly familiar with Ian Thomas' songs but I know he is the brother of Dave Thomas of SCTV fame. "Good day eh? And welcome to the Great White North!" Now I'll be a good hoser and take off!

This has been mentioned before, but Dave Thomas and his fellow McKenzie brother Rick Moranis, did a fantastic skit about Gord on SCTV. For those who haven't seen it, it was in the form of a commerical hawking the fictional record collection "Gordon Lightfoot sings every song ever written."
Dave was the voice of the excited announcer, and Moranis did a dead on impression of Gord singing everything from Happy Birthday, to 76 Trombones.
It was hysterical!

There is a Lightfoot connection to the song Painted Ladies albeit a distant one, can't remember the name of the LP offhand, but anyway low and behold guess who the drummer was on PL?

None other than Barry Keane... :D

I found that out when I was bored and looked Barry up and it came up that he played drums on that song.
