Another of my long-term favo(u)rites are the Evs
I saw them in 2003 on the Simon and Garfunkel "Old Friends' tour having previously caught them in the UK twice the first time in 1960 when their "backing group" was two of Buddy's original Crickets. I subscribe to the ezine issued fom Holland by Martial F. Bekkers International EBI Co-ordinator Kentucky Colonel Worth a visit is the EBI web site at:- http://www.everly.net/ From the latest ezine regarding reissues next month of the 60s albums on CD "Gordon Anderson, head of Collector's Choice Music this week officially acknowledged that the Everly's 60's WB CD's which are being released by CCM are in fact made from the UK remasters which have been done by the already legendary Bill Inglott. Prime quality therefore!" (As those who have the Songbook box set well know) The Evs of course moved to Warner Bros Records in 1960 with a song about somebody's Clown and I do believe young Gord and Terry (Whelan)'s Two Tones were inspired by the two brothers. John Fowles Jack and Jill ran up the hill To fetch a pail of water Jill came down with half a crown she didn't go up for water!! |
The Eternally Battling Everly Brothers sing tothether like no one before or since.
10 yrs ago they were part of the free shows at the OC County Fair. Not a drop of unity lost. Stayed for both shows. The second went considerably longer (inspite of Fair rules) 'cause they weren't ready to quit. Sitting on the grass, under the stars, corn dogs at the ready. It was perfection. I would have loved to have seen Simon & Garfunkle, Don & Phil - but no bucks. It must have been wondermusic. But the OC fair was free. And the trip to the heavenlies was the real deal. The Rez |
I have loved the Everlys since I was a teenager (that was a couple of years ago). Harmonies like nothing I haved ever heard. I saw them at Wolf Trap about 4 years ago and they just phoned in the performance. It was awful. On the other hand, I have the DVD of their reunion concert. It is out of this world.

Before Christmas I had another EBI newsletter from Martial with news of a DVD release of the Old Friends tour. I ordered on-line two copies one to come here to New Jersey as a birhday present for my wife and the other to go to my sister in Stockport UK as a Christmas present. Both arrived from Martial (in Holland) and both were marked as being (European) PAL standard but thanks to the clever digital format ours plays fine on our standard US issue standalone DVD player and NTSC (Never Twice Same Colo(u)r television set (as do video CDs made from mpeg1 video files).Anyway it really is a superb recording so Rex as you could not afford to see the actual show get yourself a DVD copy (and a player if necessary of course: they are on sale for under $30 over here now) Amazon only want $15.99 for the DVD. http://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/tg...v=glance&s=dvd http://images.amazon.com/images/P/B0...1.LZZZZZZZ.jpg An added bonus, just as at the concert we saw, S and G introduced their inspiration the Everlys who sang Susie and Dream then a rousing "duet" with all four harmonising on Bye Bye Love. Pure magic John Fowles http://www.johnfowles.org.uk//Tutori...T_Logo_300.jpg Humpty dumpty sat on a wall Humpty dumpty had a great fall All the King's horses And all the King's men had an omelette |
