My cousin played w/ Leon Russell in his heyday. Leon stood atop the piano, jamming his closed fist forward in the air. The band continued pounding Jumpin' Jack Flash.

Everytime Leon pumped his fisted hand out, 18,000 did the same.

Leon then pumped that first one more time, except this time hand extended fully - as did 18,000 kids.

Silence in the Forum in LA as everyone realized they were giving the Nazi salute.

Without a word Leon sat back at the piano and played two choruses of "In the Garden" to a stunned and silent crowd of cool kids.

The lesson needed no explaning.

The band took a break & picked up Jumpin Jack Flash after a 30 min break - without another word.

But that's only Spine-Tingler #2.
#1 belongs to Gord.

At the Universal Ampiteater, then open air,
the band sat one song out as Gordon played and sang the seldom heard Affair on 8th Avenue.

By then the lady I was w/and I had sneaked from our cheap seats up to some ringsiders left at intermission by "beats me who."

When, in the song, Gord posed the riddle, the riveting silence was broken by nothing.
I'd heard him do the song before and resume w/ the answer after a short pause.

But this was 12, perhaps 15 seconds he just stood there and gazed . . . then resumed. We could all breathe again.

Silence speaks loudly.

I have never been witness to such a moment again.

These little adventures happened but 2 weeks from one another.

Blessings,
The Rez

I can't say that I've ever had a "spine-tingling" concert experience. I've had big excitement looking forward to and being at a show. I guess you could say it goes back to my very first concert ever. Gordon Lightfoot in St. Louis. March 13, 1994. He was touring in support of W4U and did six songs from it. That was a great show!

Cheers,

Several years ago Gordon played at the Alameda County Fair, Pleasanton( San Francisco Bay Area, California) one summer. During the fairs 2 week run their was a shooting among some gangs at the fair. So local law enforcement ordered the fair to close early on July fourth and everybody had to walk through metal detectors. Anyway during Gord's show, which was like 2 or 3 days after the shooting, there was the sound of an M80 or cherry bomb firecracker somewhere on the fairgrounds. I think Gord must have heard about the shooting days earlier because he asked the question to the audience; " Is it safe? " or , "It's safe, right?" There was a lot of nervous laughter and the show went on. Maybe not spine- tingling but kind of suspenceful there for a moment or two.
