Hello my friends,
this morning, while listening to "Saturday clothes", i ask my self if You really wondered on how beautiful this song is..... It's like a picture from life's other side: the character of the song (or Gord himself) have strange feelings, like the time of his life stopped his running for a while. And the music too, with the two beautiful chords that start the song, give you back this feeling of time sospension. It's a very deeply song, probably my Gord's favourite in this moment of my life. And i think that Gord doesn't play that song in concert since a long time. I never seen thi song in any Gordon setlists, older and new. But i love it... Max Florence, Italy |
I too love Saturday Clothes...I can watch the old CBC video over and over and over and never tire of it...

Every time I hear Saturday Clothes, I think of Kenyon singing it at your Char-B-Q, Char.

Yes Max it is a great song. Nice to see you posting again. I got an iPod for Christmas and my daughter entered all the song titles from your CD for me. She types faster than I will ever and she thought typing Italian was pretty cool. Don't be a young stranger.

as long as he's back this is something I posted last summer in the small talk section (purists bear with me for a minute):
Massimiliano Larocca (aka Max) Il ritorno delle passioni I just finished listening to Max's new CD and I am thunderstruck. What fantastic music ! I think if he were to open a show for Gordon Lightfoot not only would it make musical sense but no one who enjoys Lightfoot music would want to miss it. I will try and get a link to some samples. His website is under construction but watch for it. http://www.massimilianolarocca.com/ Great stuff Max and I don't even understand Italian but I just started studying, LOL. |
"Saturday Clothes" is one of GL's best. It seems like it would be time to place it back in the set list. With GL at the age he is, it is can almost be seen from the same point of view as APPT--the party (of superstardom)may be over, but there is always another performance in the near future:
I feel a little sad to watch them leave But I'll be cool because I don't believe The happy times are gone I can still put on My Saturday clothes Every warm body knows I've got to tell you That was a swell time So now I'll take the butts away And put the glasses on the tray I'll see you all next Saturday |
In my view,"Saturday Clothes" was Lightfoot's very first foray into "light jazz" or "smooth jazz" (as it's called on our local Jazz station here in Phx).
It wasn't called that then but it's so mellow and smooth,it's unlike any song that it shares the LP with. :) How could one not like it? |
In my opinion, it's time for Gord to renew his set lists a little bit, placing back some jewels like "Saturday clothes", "Miguel", "If angels had wings", "Affair on 8th avenue" and so on....
Somebody ask Gord for these songs! Max PS Just a short line to say hello to my dear friend Bill.......not coming to US last October and don't meet you is a big regret for me..... |
When I get to attend another concert Max I'll be sure to shout out some of your requests. I agree with you but at this stage of the game I don't know how much change we'll see. But I'll give it a shot.

I think I may have requested it Cathy....I know I ask for it whenever the gang gets together!
lol geeze - that was almost 5 years ago..... |
There is a DVD "Music Scene - The Best of 1969-1970
Volume 2" a 4 hour super concert of the era's best music that includes a December 22, 1969 Gordon Lightfoot performance of That's What You Get For Loving Me and Saturday Clothes. Lots of other great artists as well. It's a commercial DVD (2001), not a bootleg - I found it at Best Buy about 4 years ago - wonderful footage of a young GL! |
