Since we are theorizing about what certain phrases in GL's music mean - does anyone have
any thoughts on what he means by 'rainbow ride'? It is to be found in "She's Not the Same' and one other song -I've forgotten which one it is. I'm sort of puzzled by it.

Thought I'd post the lyrics here to help: Kinda think he's making a reference to some girl he's seeing and finding that it's a hollow relationship, yet one difficult to give up. Still looking for the pot of gold at the end but never quite landing on the other side....just a guess...Anyone else?

She's Not The Same (Shadows) 3:10

Ah the living ain't easy
With all of these false emotions
Too little devotion
And I'm tired of just
Being alone, she's just not the same
She's a son of a gun, she's a red hot flame
She lights the sun and conjures up the rain
Like any good gambler
I was chained to a wishing well
I keep wishing in vain
But listen friend
Don't look now, she's right behind you
Looking for someone to take her inside
It thrills her so, it's a rainbow ride

I'm a little uneasy
And there ain't much pride inside me
She don't know how it hurts
And I'm telling you
It's too late now, she's not the same
She's a red hot kid, she's a crying shame

Anytime is the right time
To get on with a new tomorrow
But I could never let yesterday go
And when the falling rain makes me sad
She comes to me in the dreams I've had
In the morning light, in the dead of night

Ah the lovin' ain't easy
An' I let it get the best of me
She don't know how it hurts
And I'm telling you
It's too late now, she don't talk no more
She don't make me feel like she did before
There's too much wait and too much give and take

I'm a little uneasy
And there ain't much pride inside me
She don't know how it hurts
And I'm telling you it's
Too late now, she's just not the same
It's too late now, she's not the same
It's too late now, she's not the same

Wild Strawberries
...
We can face the world forever or we'll...
Hit the bounding main or be on a railroad train
Hit the boundless tide or be on a steamboat ride
Hit the bounding main or be on a midnight plane
Hit the pounding tide or be on a rainbow ride

(thanks LSH!)

A "Rainbow Ride" depends on your point of view. If you're a person who "dabbles" in "the green leaves" http://www.corfid.com/ubb/biggrin.gif then the defenition is obvious. http://www.corfid.com/ubb/wink.gif

If you're like me,just an everyday person who gets high on life, then it means a happy journey or experience. http://www.corfid.com/ubb/smile.gif There ya go! http://www.corfid.com/ubb/cool.gif

By the way,the group 3 Dog Night used the phrase in their song,"Joy To The World" (not the Christmas song by the way.)
Correct me someone if I get it wrong,"I'm a big high flyer and rainbow rider,a straight shootin' son of a gun!" Later! http://www.corfid.com/ubb/smile.gif

Thanks for your thoughts on 'rainbow ride'. Puzzle solved! Wow Borderstone! You remembered that Old Three Dog Night song. I had totally forgotten it. but sure enough 'rainbow rider'was in it.

Good job Borderstone concerning the 3 dog night song. After a second look...I think you are quite right as it seems to fit the text.

speaking of "rides", how about Boathouse:

"I'd rather sleep at the boathouse, what more can I say
I'd sooner eat down at the boathouse, let it carry me away.
Now I don't wantta know how it feels to step aside
So I'm leavin' here on a wicked ride"

Thanks Liz,Dj & Sean! http://www.corfid.com/ubb/smile.gif I was only about 3 when "Joy To The World" came out but I had heard it on oldies stations since the early 80s. The defenition of rainbow ride simply was obvious to me,given the era that the song was out.

I also have the cassette,"The Very Best of 3 Dog Night with all their hits but their last one. I've linked their stuff since I first heard "Shambala" which is my 100% fav by them! http://www.corfid.com/ubb/biggrin.gif

By the way Sean, did you know that, the statement you made "3 dogs tonight" is Aussie slang for how warm you'll need to be on one of their coldest nights? That's where the group gets their name! I read that in Billboard book of #1 hits.

P.S.-You'd be amazed at how many songs I know, and have! http://www.corfid.com/ubb/biggrin.gif Later! http://www.corfid.com/ubb/cool.gif
