I've enjoyed the suggested alternate "album" names thinking. Seems the albums have a personality, doesn't it ? And if only *we'd* :) been consulted LOL, other names would have been more in keeping with our varying perceptions of this.
But what of a new wishful titling theme such as this: Most of you I'd imagine have heard of Wyndham Hill records, much acoustic, piano, strings, *adult contemporary* (?) stuff. Point being, they have a "seasons" theme for at least one of their stable pianists - George Winstone. He has albums called "Winter", "Autumn, etc. What if Gord had similar re-compilations named in similar fashion ? First shot - Winter. A few obvious candidates - SFAWN, Circle of Steel, COTS, etc. Autumn - "Seven Island Suite", "Bitter Green" (obscure), "Is There Anyone Home ?" (don't know why, just has that feeling....) . Anyone else ? - Steve (Geo) |
The compilations from UA you mean?
I think they should have saved time and just called them all "The United Artists Sore Losers Package"! Pt's.1/2/3/4/5/6/7 etc...... :D LOL! Either that or "We Blew It & Never Had a Better Act Again"! |
Border, I think what Steve means is that this other performer has a "seasons" themed collection of compilations called "Spring," "Summer," "Autumn," and "Winter" - He's asking if Gord had seasonal compilations of the same names, what songs would/should be included on each? He offered a few thoughts for the Winter and Autumn albums and was asking for input from others to add to it.
(although I do think your title suggestions for the UA compilations are pretty funny ;) ) Steve, off the top of my head, I'd say "Looking At The Rain" would be a good choice for Autumn, "Clouds Of Loneliness" for Winter and "Pussywillows Cat Tails" for Spring. Right now my mind isn't jumping to any thoughts for the Summer Album - but I'll keep thinking on it. |

I have a CD called Winter's Night, with a painting of a snow covered cabin in the woods on a winter's night. Bet you can't guess the theme song of that CD.
And the news is: After 2 years of kind of forgetting that I did it, it's in the process of being made now. |
Steve, how about 'CHristian Island', 'Summerside of life' 'Cotton Jenny' for the Summer cd??? :)
|
The SONGBOOK cd's have a seasonal theme - each CD is a different colour that Canadian Maple leaves change from season to season...in a way it represents his attachment to his homeland and it's national symbol on the flag, as well as a full circle that life and art sometimes take.
I make fall coloured leaves out of glass...it's one of the pieces I always love to make. Lightfoot has one. http://img91.imageshack.us/img91/894...91030sm4zj.jpg |
Did he ever write to thank you for that, Char?
|
nope...no thank you note came my way!
- probably doesn't even associate it with me! lol he did say thanks on stage at Massey when he picked it up from beside the microphone and put it on his little stool. he mentioned he'd open the package backstage too. i hope some stagehand didn't take it home! lolol |

Well Walter you have reminded me of a great "ranting" page that our newer members will probably be unaware of. Whilst I have posted this link here before at:- http://www.corfid.com/ubb/Forum1/HTML/001452.html a topic I started subject "Gordon's Greatest hits" to which Borderstone responded several times Rereading this rant never fails to make me chortle heartily so do have a look at the original web page at:- http://www.chromehorse.net/rants/rants98/lightfoot.htm John Fowles Warning the ranter Bill Van Dyk makes many mistakes and controversial statememnts like:- "because, after more than 30 seconds of any Gordon Lightfoot song, most listeners fall fast asleep." in the earlier corfid topic A Annie gave a link to a picture of Mr Van Dyk but the link no longer works so perhaps she will try again?? |

I remember that thread - how funny. But it also reminded me of all the people we don't see anymore
like: Oma from Wisconsin Wes Steele and Gwen Snyder from Ohio Titan from Michigan (?) Earl E Riser of Jim Nasium fame. |
