Has anyone done a sculpture of Gord? I can imagine a life-size statue of him in his classic performance stance with the 12 string.
|
Wow! Bill that would be magnificent!
Is there one out there somewhere? |
An even better question: why hasn't the city of Toronto done a bronze exactly as you describe and placed it on Yonge Street, or in front of Massey Hall? Or the Province of Ontario, for that matter.
|
Yeh, I think we should get Char to look
into this for us. Are you listening, Char? |
Hi SilverHeels,
I wouldn't count on Char to give us info on that. I remember having read an article that some time ago a giant, 21 feet high statue of Gordon Lightfoot was revealed near Massey Hall. However, this statue has disappeared as mysteriously as the Gordon Lighgfoot signs in Orillia. Hmmm, didn't Char once say that she has a large concealed section in her backyard no one is allowed to enter?? http://www.corfid.com/ubb/smile.gif http://www.corfid.com/ubb/smile.gif Could you clarify THAT, Char? http://www.corfid.com/ubb/wink.gif |
Florian! I never heard about that statue thing! Was it a life size cutout possibly when he did the record signing on Yonge Street a couple of years ago? A statue near Massey Hall? Hmmmm....
I only have my shrine on the fireplace mantel here in my computer room/den! No statue - yet! LOL Char I would like to have a Canadian postal stamp done but they have a rule - gotta be "gone". The only exception was this year when the Queen Mum turned 100!. Now THAT would be awesome - a Lightfoot stamp - his likeness, a red maple leaf and a train engine! And it should exist NOW! I think I'll have to write Canada Post! |
A postal stamp would be really cool, if Char didn't use them all to wallpaper that special enclosure no one is allowed in!
Seriously, it's obvious that there should be a bronze at Massey Hall, and then the bronze should be featured on a stamp. |
Someone should find a mountain somewhere in Canada and sculpt a large picture of Gord with his 12-String, the way they did Mount Rushmoore. http://www.corfid.com/ubb/wink.gif http://www.corfid.com/ubb/smile.gif
|
Hurst,I believe it's Rushmore. http://www.corfid.com/ubb/wink.gif Rush-moore is where they put 007's likeness.
(The one played by Roger!!) http://www.corfid.com/ubb/biggrin.gif I think (hopefully while he's alive & well)that sometime soon they just might do that in Orillia. They'll make a statue for him,if he's not to modest to accept. http://www.corfid.com/ubb/smile.gif ------------------ "A knight of the road, going back to a place where he might get warm." ;) - Borderstone |
char, i did send the one to CP that we were kicking around back in 2000 (based on the great Songbooklet cover pic), no reply at all, lol ...otherwise i love the post ofice http://www.corfid.com/ubb/smile.gif
i'm not crazy about statues 'cos they often aint done 'right', imo, but love the 12 string stance idea and one in front of the Opera House seems to be a grand idea! aside, i was never crazy about the Walk of Fame logo well, hope they pull it off in Terry Fox-like fashion (it was FREEZIN' when i pulled over to admire that one, but i got all warm quicky http://www.corfid.com/ubb/smile.gif), that's how i want GL's to be if it must be how does Mount Gord sound? (relax gals, lol) |

(relax gals, lol) This would seem to be an opportune time to display again Jimmy Jones fine photo editing skills the more so after watching the great Much More Music video last night in which Gord indicates that Mount Rushmore is indeed one of his favo(u)rite places!! http://johnfowles.org.uk/LIGHTFOOT/square21.jpg ------------------ My Gordon Lightfoot webring starts at http://www.johnfowles.org.uk/lightfoot |
Sir Fowles, you're hired as my promo guy, lol
that witty Gord comment on the MMM gig was entirely what inspired that creation... didn't know if Gord might make the connection when(and if) he glanced over the square...otherwise i was going to etch him into some Muskoka rock summit (btw, i originally put him on Bon Echo rock but who knows where my pic archives are stored) agh, tried to post a pic but failed (again) ok, back to more commemorative Gord ideas Burton, Wayne & Aengus have penned tunes already ...hmmm, how about a candy bar? lol what would it be called? Mr. Big, Mr. Cool, Seven Island Sweet? "...they named a candy(bar) after her(him)" http://www.corfid.com/ubb/smile.gif [This message has been edited by jj (edited October 07, 2004).] |
Bon Echo rock - my my that brings back memories!

He emailed me his latest creation and had the gall to ask if I would display it here which I am very happy to do though quite why someone who can manuipulate images with such consumate ease can't tackle the simple job of reading my tutorials and doing this himself is rather beyond me. I can only conclude that my tutorial is insufficiently clear although several others her including the computer challenged wonder wizard of Whitby have at least once mastered the art.I take the hint though and will rewrite my tutorial as a web page as soon as I finish the Hamilton Badge Now perhaps my client Jim could write a tutorial to show the various steps and program(me)s he utilised to create this further masterpiece? Just make a few screenshots Jim plus a write up and I'll put it on my web site promise. http://www.charstamp.notlong.com P.S. Jim what happenned to the"red maple leaf"??? (ok it is almost the fall (autumn in England)!! so the leaf has got "browned off" no doubt P.P.S. and you missed of the vital words "post" and "postes" the latter of course for any kaybeckers sufficiently language-challenged to not be able to work out what "post" is in french for themselves P.P.P.S. I found the solution make your very own Canadian stamps see:- http://www.canadapost.ca/personal/co...?stamp=postage Final "post"-script Jim be very sure to read the small print at the bottom and clear this with Barry and/or Gord first. You could do that at Hamilton perhaps?? then order hundreds nay thousands and sell on here?? (then we'll all move to Canada to use them!!! ------------------ My Gordon Lightfoot webring starts at http://www.johnfowles.org.uk/lightfoot [This message has been edited by johnfowles (edited October 08, 2004).] |
I'm impressed! I like it a lot.

Mmmmmmm.........
I know it's the wrong thread - but, god, doesn't he look gorgeous with that beard?!!!! |

It's OK Jimmy has subtly revised his stamp http://www.upload4free.com/files/5802.jpg Still no post/postes though not only that but he also found a "Gordstatue" to boot http://www.upload4free.com/files/5833.jpg ------------------ My Gordon Lightfoot webring starts at http://www.johnfowles.org.uk/lightfoot [This message has been edited by johnfowles (edited October 08, 2004).] |
thx for doing the HARD part, john! http://www.corfid.com/ubb/smile.gif
dunno if i can convey about a dozen years of toying with pics into a few screencaptures but let me put that on the homework list i use jasc paint shop pro and adobe photoshop and apple final cut, depending...i think i had mentioned there was a trial version of PSP at tucows.com, that one's simplest, imo (i'm sure others here do this stuff to one degree or other with family pics http://www.corfid.com/ubb/smile.gif) not much credit to throw my way, was just replying to Char's stamp 'design' http://www.corfid.com/ubb/smile.gif i did some other GL versions around Y2K when Can Post brought out their millenium collection but her idea (especially the train component!) revived the incentive to toy a bit more from scratch - i don't see post or postes on Canuck stamps, clarify??? i downloaded other's pic from the web to do this montage without asking so this is just for corfid fun, too much redtape to deal with when trying to 'issue' stamp designs, CD designs, video music licensing, etc, etc...hate that part! maybe Char's able though? http://www.corfid.com/ubb/smile.gif i'd do a 4 part GL collection using different gord pics from different eras and have Edmund Fitz, the Opera House and Massey as other backgrounds - but all GL fans should brainstorm to come up with a internet group GL stamp(s) - i put 58 on the stamp because i figure that's the price one will be by the time there's a Gord stamp, lol should have a American & International version also http://www.corfid.com/ubb/smile.gif i don't like the bright red of the Canadian Maple Leaf flags i've seen around lately, they fade to pink, lol ...i fly one that's as dark and deeop red (like the Habs uni's)as i could find so i did the red-sepia washover on purpose, sorry if it looks like blood, lol i also didn't see it necessary to put Gord's name on the stamp (not for Canuck's anyhow, we may have daft moments but we know who Lightfoot is, lol) back to the original statue post by Bill, Terry Fox and Gord do/did look similar in ways, especially the curly golden locks era i was all alone when i stopped at the Terry memorial site where his journey halted (it STILL hasn't ended http://www.corfid.com/ubb/smile.gif), if i wasn't in a rush i would have stayed quite a long while even though it was subzero... his effort was miraculous, as is Gord's recovery, stunning - these are 'real' stamps from Can Post http://www.upload4free.com/files/5868.jpg http://www.upload4free.com/files/5870.jpg http://www.upload4free.com/files/5871.jpg [This message has been edited by jj (edited October 08, 2004).] |
