Alerted by a posting on the Everly Brothers Yahoo group
I visited ![]() "On September 18, CMV/Columbia/Legacy will release The Best of the Johnny Cash TV Show, a 2xDVD compiling 64 live performances from the 58 episodes of Johnny Cash's 1969-1971 "The Johnny Cash Show". DVD Release Date: September 18, 2007 It is already on sale in the UK (albeit in a stoopid region 2 only version so it would not immediately play on a US region 1 DVD player) Aside My computer's DVD-ROM player has without me doing anything decided that it is now a region 2 machine so I can watch any UK sourced region 2 DVDs on that player or go throught the somewhat unreliable ritual of using DVD Shrink to make a region free "back-up" copy Now where was I Oh Yus in addition to thae above referenced US Amazon page the Yahoo group posting also listed:- http://www.play.com/DVD/DVD/4-/34390...w/Product.html which lists the tracks on the 2-DVD set as issued in the UK Now considering that this spans the series that apparently ran from 1969 to 1971 and that Gord appeared with Johnny not once but TWICE in that time span (first pre November 1969 because I saw that one whilst still in Montreal, then again in 1971 and as noted by Wayne on:- http://www.lightfoot.ca/tvappear.htm THE JOHNNY CASH SHOW - ABC - 1969 Lightfoot performed Ribbon Of Darkness and Softly during this appearance and duets with Johnny on For Lovin' Me. While in Nashville for this appearance, Lightfoot was introduced to Me And Bobby McGee by Kristofferson. And:- THE JOHNNY CASH SHOW - ABC - 1971 This time out on the Cash show, Lightfoot does Canadian Railroad Trilogy and a snippet of Steel Rail Blues. I was therefore most disappointed to see that although there is a listing of featured artists including the first 4 tracks on DVD1:- 1. Johnny Cash - Ring of Fire 2. Bob Dylan - I Threw It All Away 3. Bob Dylan & Johnny Cash - Girl from the North Country 4. Kris Kristofferson - Loving Her Gordon is nevertheless i.e. LESS overlooked. Could this be due to a problem at Head Office ?? Thoughts anyone?? Sir Loin/John [ August 13, 2007, 14:15: Message edited by: johnfowles ] |
Late Breaking News
If you cannot wait until September and it might as well rain until then after all! further googling revealed:- http://www.tvboxset.com/index.php?ma...FQwsOAodjhLJOQ which site allegedly has on sale THE JOHNNY CASH SHOW DVD COLLECTION already albeit for a pricey Reqular Price $249.99 on sale for $169.99 but they do claim interestingly "All 58 Uncut Episodes 2 Seasons on 30 DVDS" and Excellent video and audio quality 100% in chronological order Commercial free and unedited This box set contains all 30 DVDs with custom artwork and episode guides so you can find your favorite episode at anytime. These DVDs are region free so the will play on any DVD player Worldwide and DVD-Rom, X-Box or PS2 worldwide. Also I spotted http://www.allmyfavoriteshows.com/mo...Cash_Show.html who make very similar claims but:- The Johnny Cash Show Seasons 1-2 All 58 episodes 30 DVDs. Regular Price $299.99 Our Price $168.99 Product Packaging: Standard DVD Cases with Professional, Full Color Artwork Region Code: 0 (Region-Free - Plays Worldwide) DVD Format: Format-Free DVD-R (Plays in both PAL and NTSC DVD players) Note the DVD-R reference so these people are presumeably not selling authorised copies I also found:- https://secure.ga3.org/03/johnnycash?source=pledgejump note that intriguing "Pledge Jump" which is presumably referring to the repetitive US "begathons" known as "Pledge" that PBS use to get money for their shows and generally excellent television service There being no equivalent to the universal public funded (from a Licence fee) Auntie Beeb over here of course However that page resolutely refused to open for me If anybody else can see it please report back http://www.subjektiv.se/word/images/cash.jpg Any ideas anybody??? |
OK that "pledge jump" site finally opened and turned out as I had suspected as the selling/pledge site for Det-roy-it Public Television.
clicking on a DVD picture http://www.detroitpublictv.org/bonus...ges/cashcd.jpg got me http://www.detroitpublictv.org/bonusitems/cash.htm Unusually for a pledge offering instead of asking a fixed "silly money" grossly inflated donation price all items shown have a "Fair Market Value' price: that indicated for the same 2 DVD set they say "Includes Signal and MemberCard Plus FMV: $54" that is for the top DVD and bonus audio CD package the DVD or CD on their own have lower suggested donation and FMV prices |
