to all,
Gord has never received the respect due him here in the USA, as goes real ceremonies, that is...
Has anyone ever sent his name into the R&R HofF? If so, what was the outcome?
Truly, I don't think Gord could care at all if this event occurred or not...but, maybe his fans would like the memory of having helped make this happen?!?!?!?
What we need to do as a group is perhaps all write a letter (no e-mails are accepted) to the R&R HofF and submit his name to be considered as an inductee. This will take a lot of writing folks, but, he really has influenced R&R and was there in its' infancy to help the direction the whole music scene went towards. Literally, he was the literal side of R&R music (the way I see it anyway).
Please, anybody out there who objects or thinks this is ludicrous please post now.
Bye
GSS

as far as i know it was just the Juno award that bob dylan handed him in 1986

Great idea Gwen, I sure would be up for that, I know that Gord's feelings about awards have changed and he may just warm up to the idea of a US award. Let's rally!

If it's not there already (and I doubt it is)he certainly also deserves a star on the sidewalk in Hollywood! This way, people would be walking all over him in a different way. http://www.corfid.com/ubb/biggrin.gif Seriously though,I really feel he deserves any music or humanitarian award related to his life and career. What can some of these award giving people be thinking by not thinking of his work in life and in music? Beats me. Catch ya on the flipside of Sundown! http://www.corfid.com/ubb/cool.gif

The star on the sidewalk thing requires a sponsor, that much I know. I went through that whole lovely process once for an announcer at a station I worked for. He'd only be in L.A. radio for forty years. Someone has to have a sponsor willing to pay the cost and nominate them, sometimes repeatedly. And there are a couple committies involved in the selection process. I think the sponsorship cost is $15,000. There should be more info on the Hollywood Chamber of Commerce site.

There is also a "Rock Walk" in Hollywood. I have no clue what the process for that is, but lots of Rock N Rollers have been inducted into that as well.

I said on an old thread that I don't believe Gord will get into the R&R Hall of Fame while Jann Wenner (Rolling Stone magazine founder) is one of its head honchos.

I don't think these two gentlemen have much use for each other.

If I'm not mistaken, and that is possible cause once I thought I was, but I was wrong....Umong my Gordon archives somewhere, is there not a picture somewhere of Gordon with His hand in the cement doing the star thing? I agree he deserves much more.... Brian J. (Iron)

this photo is under disk 4 on songbook

You forgot to mention that the object used in the award on the cement is a maple leaf. The picture was taken in Canada. I'm sure it says somewhere in the booklet what the award is. Later. http://www.corfid.com/ubb/smile.gif

The R&R Hall of fame is a real sham. The board of people who select the nominees all have their own adgenda, lots of worthy artists/bands have been submitted and lots get smacked down due to personal bias, instead of looking at their track records.
What I hope for as far as Gordon is concerned is one of two things. Highest on my list is that the Grammy people will single him out for a lifetime achievement award. He certainly has the hit records and career longevity for it...and, this may sound cynical, but his recent illness may wake some people up to the fact that no one is around forever. Second in priority is the American Music Awards. Now, I don't know if Gord has had any kind of relationship with Dick Clark over the years, but a lifetime award on the AMA would be great. Dick decides everything that goes on with that show, it's his baby.

They don't do the hand in cement thing in Hollywood anymore. Too messy. Just a little neat star with a name on it now.
