Speaking for myself one of the highlights of the recent Massey extravaganza was meeting Ron Jones face to face (after a few chatroom chats).
Not only is he only a smidgen younger than myself but also he too considers that "Face Of A Thousand People " is a fantastic Gord song so I was absolutely delighted that he was able to perform it magnificently and very authentically at my request during Saturday's Delta chelsea's jam session. Indeed my main regret is that due to continuing reliability problems with my friggin' Sony camcorder (did I tell you before to boycott anything made by Sony?? I have now!!) I did not have it with me to record Ron's performance. Oh well next time eh?? If that were not enough Ron proceeded to make me the custodian of his GL clippings collection, which in due course I will be selectively scanning and uploading to my site ass an alternative "treasure trove" Meanwhile on the "BritGordFest topic I have already displayed a picture of Ron in action 2005 taken by Susan and amongst his clippings I found two from the Orillia Packet taken in 1984 and 1985 at the Orillia Leacock Sidewalk Sale Daze:- For comparison and to show that Ron's current Folically-Challenged appearance is not a recent old age phenomenon!! This is Susan's picture May 2005 http://groups.msn.com/_Secure/0SACRA...g/MVC-004F.JPG the August 1984 picture and the August 1985 picture the sharp eyed amongst you might have noticed that in 1985 Ron had suddenly become left handed!!! And those who saw him at the Delta Chelsea just might recognise Liam!!! John Fowles And the face of a thousand people, the face of a thousand people Keeps telling me I'm out to lunch, reality has passed me by They're telling me that I've been wrong before P.S. Richard hkusam of Vancouver Island http://www.corfid.com/cgi-bin/ubb/ul...ile;u=00001030 I will send you a private message but you or anyone else in Vancouver should make a point of contacting Ron as he told me he plays GL tunes as a "licenced busker" every evening in Vancouver [ May 27, 2005, 10:01: Message edited by: johnfowles ] |
Ron is TOO adorable for words. His joy is infectious and I am SO glad he was able to trek across the country to meet up with us not only in January but last week for the triumphant return of Lightfoot to Massey Hall.
It was wonderful that 3 gnerations of the Jones family could make it to the acoustic session at The Delta - what a great memory for them to share. |
Hi John and Ron!
It was a pleasure to see both of you at Massey, and Liam as well. John, you've quoted one of my favorite songs too! :) Face Of A Thousand People ------------------------- I was born a restless one, I was born to learn the reason why To take my troubles as they fall, to stand against the icy wind To guard against confusion and decline To listen to the tongues of men, who tell me that I must be told The meaning of my life and all its ends I was born to understand, I was born to lend a helping hand To love the ones who cared to love, to be a friend to those in need To help the weary traveller in the night Forgetting not the wasted soul, the beggar man, the con man And the widow and the orphan in the street And the face of a thousand people, the face of a thousand people Keeps telling me I'm out of step, reality has passed me by They're telling me that I've been wrong before I was born to criticize, I was born to try to make things right Today I saw the world again, it seemed the same as yesterday The splendour of its ruins and its shame Its towers rose against the sky, reminding all that cared to look That what's been built can be destroyed again I was born to keep on trying, I was born to have a dream or two To taste the pleasures of the night, to know the joy of love's embrace To cherish every moment that is mine To share my laughter with a friend, to sip the wine and not pretend That there are those less fortunate than I And the face of a thousand people, the face of a thousand people Keeps telling me I'm out to lunch, reality has passed me by They're telling me that I've been wrong before I was born to recognize, to be aware of things that are not real To tremble at the changing skies, too ominous to understand When brothers meet upon the battle lines When bodies clothed in uniforms, to reap the harvest of their pride Lie scattered like the dead leaves on the sand I was born to sing my song, I was born to try to reach someone To penetrate the iron will, to try to make men understand That being a human is no sin at all That beauty lies within the wounds, of lonliness and dark despair That heals to fall but still to rise again And the face of a thousand people, the face of a thousand people Keeps telling me I'm out of step, reality has passed me by They're telling me that I've been wrong before They're telling me that I've been wrong before |
