Hi fade,
It might be helpful if you list the losers next to the winners in your overall list. For someone just getting here or those of us who honestly can't remember it would be a big help. Thanks. Bill :) |

A toughie?? Not even!
"Did She Mention My Name",is the best of all 4 U.A. LP's. It has the most recognized songs of that period of his career. :) "Endless Wire",while having some good points, is 10 to 11 years later and is nothing like the former. WB records tried to make him sound conventional and/or "California" as was popular at the time. That meaning,"California Rock" like the Eagles,Poco,Pablo Cruise etc. Maybe if you compared EW with Dream Street Rose it would have been a challenge. Good to fair songs on EW but none can hold a candle to D.S.M.M.N's roster. ;) |
For once, B'stone and I agree 100%. He's got both albums pegged just right. Nothing that wrong with EW, although the vocals are a little muddy, but there are some weaker songs (Sometimes I Don't Mind sounds like Gord as a lounge lizard trying out disco), and although I like the title song, Gord on the whole album sounds a little burned-out (like the lyrics in EW). I know that some people have commented on how much they like, or don't like, the cover; to me, he frankly looks hung over.
DSMMN, by quite a bit. DQ |
Did She Mention My Name. Lots of my favourites on this one. One of his strongest albums depth wise I reckon.

alright...although I like Mountains and Marian better than any other track on these two, I will have to go with EW. I have too many other tracks on DSMMN that I just don't care for...
endless wire. |
gee, I hate to go against the pack, but.....
There are three songs I really like on DSMMN, but there isn't a single song on Endless Wire that I don't have in the upper ranks of my favorites. Circle is Small, Daylight Katy, Dreamland, If Children Had Wings, Hangdog Hotel Room all of them are fabulous. I was very pleased when he sang that in Vegas (HHR). Endless Wire - the whole album is great. [ July 16, 2006, 13:43: Message edited by: brink- ] |
I was starting to get worried there, but EW seems to be picking up steam.
I pretty much echo Brink's sentiments on this one. EW I know by heart and consider it a very underrated album. For DSMMN I had to look up the songlist, and there were 4 on there that grab me. So it's EW. |
No,I'm not trying to vote again,
but I had to make this comment. The only negative I have to "DSMMN" is, too many songs. Personally,I'd have left out "May I" and "Boss Man" bacause they kind of disrupt the mood of the album. So I really like 10 out of the 12 tracks. On "EW" ,I like (to a degree)7 out of the 10 but not nearly as much as on the 1st LP. The three that rank just a bit less are,"Hang-dog Hotel Room","Dreamland" and "Songs The Minstrel Sang". I don't "hate" them but I don't "love" them either. Since music is a big part of me and since a song/or songs have to really reach me,I could never possibly rank "EW" higher than "DSMMN". |
