http://cgi.ebay.com/Gordon-LIGHTFOOT...QQcmdZViewItem Any ideas anyone?? http://i2.ebayimg.com/04/i/04/59/1a/25_2.JPG I am not at all sure what to make of this (It might be purely a page from an old calendar) because the auction description reads "Faline '93 from the cats meow lighthouse series 1990. This light house is on Lake Superior near Duluth, Minnesota, it is no longer used but it is turned on once a year on the anniversary of the wreck of the Edmund Fitzgerald." "Faline" could be a typo for feline?? |
Cute, John. Did you make it? (Yeah, sure you found it on the 'net...) Ahhh, did you make that for Gord?!

Definitely looks like a crude representation of Split Rock. You can visit it on the beautiful north shore of Lake Superior. You can find lots of information here: http://www.mnhs.org/places/sites/srl/highway.html
And here's a picture for ya: http://img393.imageshack.us/img393/690/splitrock9hw.jpg Mnmouse Editing to say: If you link to that website, click on the "Featured Programs" link (listed on the right of the page) and you can read about the annual lighting in memory of the sailors who died when the Edmund Fitzgerald went down. Last night, while channel flippin',I happened across a late night show called (hope I get the name right) "Unexplained Mysteries" (not to be confused with "Unsolved M.")
The show was about "water vortex's" such as the Bermuda Triangle and how they seemingly cause ships' radars & compases to "conk out" and cause disaster. One of the ships (and they had a 30 year old clip of it) was the Edmund Fitzgerald! :) Although breif and not shedding to much light on the accident,it was said there was a "great lakes vortex" where the ship was sailing while in the storm. An expert stated that both of Fitz's radars stopped working (and possibly the compass) and within a minute the boat went under once back up and then sank permanently. Had I not been channel surfing I might have missed it. ;) Which reminds me,and I'm sure you know, the 30th anniversary of this event is this November. |
