Hello, just wondering what this expression means? Does he mean the shoulder of the road, or something else?
Thanks a lot. Matthew |

A very good question Matthew. the obvious answer is The Man's own words, which you can find in your (??) copy of the superb Songbook booklet if you nor anyone else here does not possess the box-set then the Rhino records site at:- http://www.rhino.com/features/liners/75802lin.lasso
lists where all the songbook booklet text is contained (in 4 files) This is from the page that reproduces all Gord's words on the meaning/background to all the songs on songbook at:- http://www.rhino.com/features/liners/75802lin5.lasso 3/5. COLD ON THE SHOULDER "We've all been there. Sounds to me like someone who has been away from his lady for a long time and wants to get her back. Maybe he's promising to change his ways, but he definitely will do whatever it takes to get back in her good graces. The loneliness and remorse is getting to be a little too much, it's a little bit cold out there, so he's coming back in to stay" ------------------ My Gordon Lightfoot webring starts at http://www.johnfowles.org.uk/lightfoot [This message has been edited by johnfowles (edited November 28, 2003).] |

I believe it's along the same lines as giving someone the "cold shoulder". Either he turned his back on her or the other way around. Now one or the other is feeling lost or "cold". That's my take. Later! http://www.corfid.com/ubb/cool.gif
