Well hopefully within the next 2 hours I will have No Hotel and Shellfish to add to my collection.

Found them on WinMX just now, No Hotel is now downloading.

Gord: I have these (from concerts) and I can only hope that the versions you come up with are better than what I have. Let's just say I was not overly impressed; not some of GL's best work.

BILLW 01-14-2003 08:43 PM

somewhere,

are you talking about the sound quality of the bootlegs or the songs themselves? When I heard them in concert they were pretty good and I for one expect them to be on his next CD.

Should have been more specific. I was referring to the quality of the songs from the concerts...not the quality of the music itself. Sorry for the confusion.

No problemo somewhere, it's just that my avocation is picking nits and sometimes it spills over into my casual conversation. I'm a nitpicker I confess. Let's hope we can celebrate the future release of another Gordon Lightfoot CD with these and other songs getting the full studio treatment.
Peace,

Before releasing a new CD (and besides getting better) doesn't Gord have to sign
with a new record company? What company do you think it will be?

His most recent compilation CDs have been released by Rhino which is either a subsidiary of Warner/Reprise, or at least has an operating agreement with them. I would guess anything new would still come out on the W/R label.

I just typed in Gordon Lightfoot Live

If someone is on who has these tunes you'll see them.If not you won't. I just got lucky that day.

Still need to clean these two up, not the greatest stereo quality. If you want them leave a message at my message board.

I can't email them, my account won't let me do that, but if you have Yahoo, look me up at bassmaster_65321 and I can send you the two songs that way.

As I said when I found those two songs I just typed in Gordon Lightfoot Live and they popped up. I must stress that you will only find those songs if somebody is online who has them. If no one online has them on their HD you won't find it.

Watchman, that is definetly NOT Gordon Lightfoot, I downloaded it and it is sung by the original band ( their name escapes me)

Some people are just clueless.

A search on Google finds the song "Brandy" is by "Looking Glass".

Good song!

hello, looking glass had a hit with that song and really like you Watchman, I can definitely hear Gord singing that song. Right now I am listening to the groundhog song from the cd you sent to Matthew, Watchman. We're gonna have groundhog. Really after the deep freeze we have endured last 2 weeks and some, I just want that groundhog to stay out of his hole on groundhog day. just joking. I admit that part of the reason we live here (NE Ohio)is to be cold part of the year...but, I'm frozen now. How about all you guys?

gwen,
isn't that groundhog song a good-on'? We live on the "Eastern Shore" of Maryland which is between the Chesapeake Bay and the Atlantic Ocean (this keeps the temperature moderate, well this morning it was about zero (0), huh?) They like muskrat here but not groundhogs. And yes IYCRMM, this post is related to GL, I know 'cause I posted it.

well, I guess then that we are all in this freezing thing together, even Gord up there in Toronto. our oldest son lives in Richmond Va. and he couldn't believe the 3 inches or so, of snow they got there. We have friends in the Baltimore area and they have been surprised about the cold. But, its' winter, I'm glad to know you're freezing, too, it's somehow comforting to know...-10 this morning, before the windchill.
the groundhog song is funny, it was funny enough to laugh. I enjoyed it tremendously, you see this morning I was taking my computer to the shop and was playing the cd from Matthews' sight that I burned last night, the Palace Theatre concert, it started off real good and then I just started to cry because I do not think Gord will ever be doing any concerts'again and he sounded so fragile on that cd...well, you can imagine, not a good thing, but, it was nice that somebody copied the concert. We went to a concert last summer up @ Highland Square in Akron and there I cried, too. I enjoy the opportunity to participate in life and Gord offers us that ability. I guess I am an emotionally driven person, that could be why I love his music...you, too?

The Albany concert certainly shows how weak, thin, and tired Lightfoot's voice has become in the last few years. Gwen, like you I became sad hearing him strain so hard to reach notes that once were so effortless. I have loved GL's music for over thirty years and it is hard to accept he is now only a shadow of the singer he once was.

It's curious that some singers age better than others. James Taylor is about ten years younger than Gord but his voice seems to be improving with age. He sounds better now than when he first started recording in the early 70's. Tony Bennett still has fabulous "pipes" and he is in his early 70s!

Watchman, I agree completely with your assessment that Lightfoot's voice has taken a lot of abuse over the years. 50 years of cigarette smoking coupled with over 40 years of singing on stage have exacted a severe toll on his vocal register. Spending months in a hospital ICU with a tube snaked down his nose and throat cannot have helped the situation. I don't mean to sound too negative as I still love the man's music but I find it hard to listen to his current voice. I expect I may get "flamed" for saying that so let me close by saying I hope Gordon makes a complete recovery, returns to the stage, and proves me wrong! Nothing would make me happier!

Best regards,
closetcanadian

hey guys,

Boy, Gordon Lightfoot just wants to give us asmuch of his self as he possibly can. We truly are gifted to have been receivers of his talent. I have listened to that albany cd now several times and I am really enjoying it more and more, what an indescribable talent we have in Gordon!! And like you, watchman, boy, I wonder if we could give him a standing ovation for the entire performance? I mean after all if he has another concert we would be the luckiest people on the earth. But, ya know what? I just hope if he is well and decides to never tour or have concerts again that he has the time for his life. After what he has been through we could never ask from this man...he has given us so much of himself. The Groundhog song is still funny! He is still a wonderful musician. Now, then what a talent.
