In the song, Restless, there's a line, "We will be returning to the things that we love best."

Things....
Enroute; walking, running, (flying blind, ;) )or do you just find yourself returning to things? |

Now, just remember, that line got changed to "The things we DO best". That might be quite different....ie. work and play are two different things.
Perhaps what you pose is just a rhetorical question! |

So, he changed that line; I didn't know that. So, I meant LOVE best. Posing rhetorical questions isn't exactly what I love best. I was a bit interested in hearing a story or two.
When at was at a concert and he sang that, (I thought he said, love), I thought to myself, hey here I am at a Gordon Lightfoot concert and I felt like I was back to the good music. |

He might well have sung "love" ; it's not really important, but check the lyrics on the dvd and you'll find "do".
How about....wandering over a hillside exploring and enjoying.....prior to it (I'm ashamed to say being logged. That was this afternoon. Makes you want to hear "love and maple syrup"! |

Think a bit on the following song to Love and Maple Syrup: Cabaret. Lots of references to California in there. Also Biscuit City is another one. Makes one wonder why Gord has sung so much about California. (Hey, now don't anybody get offended by me asking...I'm coming down there next week) As well, it seems Gord always starts his tours there. Coincidence????I don't think so!

Richard likes California, too, and we've been talking about it. And the way he framed his post, it just brings a smile to your face. Well, it did to mine. In any event, he and I understand, right, Richard?!

Does California have cactuses?

Sure. Ever hear of the Mojave (pronounced "Mo-ha-vee") desert? It's about 1 3/4 hours north of Los Angeles. Also the Anza Borrega desert. That's near San Diego. Actually, the San Fernando Valley is a low desert, as is the Mojave desert. Bringing water into the San Fernando Valley made it habitable. Go rent the movie, "Chinatown."

As for the lyrics of Restless - I don't know whether he changed them from 'love' to 'do best'which he does sing on the DVD or whether he sang the wrong word . But then he also changed some of the lyrics on 'Early Mornin' Rain' on the DVD - from 'where the cold wind blows' to'pain that evergrows'. Purposeful change or mistake? I don't know.
