There's a cover of Song for a Winter's Night being played on XM radio's Holly channel. It's a nice version performed by a female artist from the soundtrack to a movie called "the Heart".
Does anybody know the name of the artist or anything about the movie? Thanks. |

Sarah McLachlan does a lovely version but I have no idea what movie it may be in. Is the movie "Where The Heart Is" from the book by Billie Letts?

Well All Right
I googled and at first I thought I had hit pay dirt when I read on:- http://www.windsortribune.com/module...ticle&sid=2724 "Sarah McLachlan surfaces with songs from the heart" Actually it turned out to be a red herring!! http://www.musselinn.co.nz/images/la...redherring.jpg I think 'd rather look at Sarah thanks a lot http://www.di-arezzo.com/multimedia/...v/am949718.jpg After some more searching I found one online CD store that has a short (29 seconds) clip of the intro to Sarah's super version try:- http://www.cdconnection.com/bin/nph-...rt=89174#songs it is on her CD " Rarities, B-Sides & Other Stuff" http://www.nettwerk.com/images/cover/SarMc.RarBsAn.jpg and I remember one Saturday evening many moons ago when Whispering Bob Harris played that track on BBC radio 2 I can clearly recall thinking that this rendition was far too good to be only a B-side! In retrospect I have a feeling that once again Gordon was not mentioned by Mr Harris. If you venture to her website http://www.sarahmclachlan.com/ there is a discograhy with at the bottom a list of film soundtrack entries but it does not include anything with "heart " in the title you will find her site to be the very model of how to present an artist to the public featuring an excellent method of displaying a picture gallery at:- http://www.sarahmclachlan.com/photos/index.html the site's "download" link goes to a large section at:- https://www.werkshop.com/sarahmp3/index.jsp where you can download for a modest cost whole albums in either mp3 or flac (Free Lossless Audio Codec) formats or individual mp3s for only 99cents including her SFAWN Anybody up there reading this!!! You're right, it's Sarah MacLachlan.
I found a link to the full song on Sarah's site. It's on a Christmas compilation album called "A Winter's Night", which also features a cool version of "God Rest ye Merry Gentlemen" by Sarah and Barenaked Ladies. I can't find a movie with the word "heart" in it that features the song in its soundtrack. XM must have made a mistake with the song credits. Thanks, Char and John. |

Don't know why Song For a Winter's Night would be considered a Christmas Song. I know it has the sound of Jingle Bells in it Matter of fact I think I heard the original one once and has them as well. but there are a few out there witch are more about winter itself than Christmas. What's even more odd is a tune like Linus & Lucy is also considered a Holiday even thpugh it has been played in other Peanuts specials but since the CB Christmas was the very 1st special that was ever done 40 years this year.

I think it's a good idea or a Christmas song. Granted,it's not about the spiritual side of Christmas but it's a great song for couples who for some reason can't be together on the hoidays. (Like husbands or even working vives who travel on business.)
I think it could even be as simple as one 1/2 of them has to work so much, not far from the home, but away from it enough that they are missed and they wish they could see there significant other more. Christmas is about togetherness after all, along with all the rest that it stands for. :) So,you can also see why it's in the top ten of my fav. GL songs. ;) |
John,
Thanks for posting the Christmas album. That is SO hilarious! |
