I received a letter from David Feathers, Public Relations Manager of the Island Resort Casino regarding the cancelled Sept. 16 concert.
Included in the letter was a credit card refund of $60 for our two tickets. From the letter: "Just hours before the concert, we discovered that one of the support trusses in the Starlight Stage had buckled. We called in the proper staff and the determination was that it was not safe to conduct the concert. Although the evening was rife with rumors, the only reason for the cancellation of the concert was the structural safety issue." "We appreciate your understanding and patience in this matter. We share your disappointment at missing such a wonderful concert by so superb a performer." My wife Debbie and I were extremely disappointed by the cancelled concert as we had driven 350+ miles and had had tickets for four or five months. However, we were in the 8th row on Sept. 15 for the unforgetable performance shortly after his stroke. I can confirm that the casino tent roof had a "dip" in it when we looked at it shortly after arriving for the concert that was cancelled. I think the casino did the right thing and handled the situation as well as they could. The Sept 15 (Harris, MI) and Sept. 17 (Minneapolis) concerts will always impress me by how he persevered and how he did everything possible not to disappoint his fans. Many entertainers would have cancelled without batting an eye. Truly Gord lives many of his lyrics such as those in "I'd Rather Press On", "Stay Loose", "Salute" and many others. John/ Minnesota |
