'Too Many Clues In This Room' I believe is one of those songs that can mean whatever you want it to mean. Although I'm not really to sure. But when Gordon L. wrote this song he could have been thinking about a death in the family.
"The space shuttle ends where the subway begins"- When we lose our family members or friends up until the funeral we experience shock and disbelief as well as sadness. That would be like the space shuttle. But after the funeral we've accepted their death and now we're going through the sadness and loneliness stage.
This might have been what this song was talking about.(At least in the 1st part of the lyrics it might have bin.) The shock and disbelief ends at the funeral where the real pain, the long lasting pain, begins.

I'll half to listen to this song a bit. The rest of the lyrics fit quite well. I would like to explain the whole song but I'm on a school computer and don't have time.

"Last Time I Saw Her",is one of those kinds of songs too. Even though he never says th afore mentioned D word. I think he has a few other songs about this life reality.

I might be making an assumption here, but when you equate the space shuttle to shock, disbelief and sadness in TMCITR, are you referring to the Challenger tragedy? Because if that is the case, that happened long after Gord wrote the song, so he wasn't referring to that specifically. Maybe just the idea that the shuttle goes out into the dark "nothingness" of space? Who knows exactly what Gord had in mind when he wrote that interesting lyric? I have been told that he sometimes just threw words together that sounded cool. But it definitely keeps us thinking and listening, doesn't it?

If he were talking about anything at that time it would be the near disaster of Apollo 13 but I don't think he'd wait 4 or 5 years to do it.

No, he would've probably mentioned it somewhere in the song and would've done it a year afterwards like he did the Fitz.

Someone did ask Gord, DMD3,if it was about Watergate and he answered "if you want it to be". Or something like that.

Sometimes you just don't get a straight answer out of him on his songs. Probably because being a true artist...some of his creations are left to self-interpretation.

My final opinion is that this is one of a few songs that is there to mean whatever you want it to mean. If you have a good imagination and/or like to think certain songs are talking about something different than what it is really talking about then this is the song for you.
