I am sitting here listening to Johnnie Walker on BBC Radio 2. He had KD Lang in the studio playing live, songs from her new CD Hymns From The 49th Parallel. For those not aware, this CD consists of songs written by great Canadian songwriters. Not one song by Gordon Lightfoot. This omission is completely beyond my comprehension.

wow, would have loved to hear her do those live

her covering GL doesn't sit right with me,
nor her:

...Given the wealth of potential material, devising a songlist was the other tricky part. She said she went through more than 40 Ian & Sylvia records, and researched everyone from Gordon Lightfoot to Wilf Carter and the McGarrigles.

"But as I started to think about it, I really wanted to do the things that were chemically part of my emotional makeup. So I went back to my original group of people — in no way intending to slight other Canadian songwriters, of course."

Makes sense to me. KD's lifestyle is the total opposite of Lightfoot's music. Thank God she did not cover any of his songs, she would have ruined them for sure. I used to think she was a he until I heard her open her pie hole.

Let's "burn" a couple million CD's of GL's music and mail them to the world!!

They all need to know this music as well as we do! Dog-gone it! http://www.corfid.com/ubb/rolleyes.gif

For the younger and citified folk: "Pie Hole" is a funny term for "mouth", lest someone think TheWatchman was gettin' odd on us, LOL.

I'm just as glad KD didn't cover any GL songs, but I'm crappy about covers of his music anyway. Like the fact that since he's well respected people do cover his songs, I just don't wanna have to listen to it.

KD has a gorgeous voice. Rich and full, and she has excellent control of her pipes. Still wouldn't want to hear her sing GL stuff.

Chemically part of her emotional makeup? Sounds kind of illegal to me.
I don't really like her. She claims to be a reincarnation of Patsy Cline, but looks more like Elvis.

Better yet. Let's just collect all her CDs and burn them... in a very big bonfire.

And I've changed my mind. She doesn't look at all like Elvis. She looks more like Clay Aiken.

Gordon Lightfoot is a man who sings love songs about women. KD is a woman who sings love songs about women. See the difference? Gordon is a man and looks like a man. KD is a woman who looks like a man, or a teenage boy. KD is a freak. Gordon Lightfoot is an ordinary man with extraoridinary gifts.

Why in the hell do you think KD, with her butch hair cut said "But as I started to think about it, I really wanted to do the things that were chemically part of my emotional makeup." Think about it unless you want me to draw you a picture.

Yeah, I would have to say that I am glad she didn't cover any of Gord's songs. She sings fine, but nothing I am too interested in. I have to agree with Laurel, Gord's songs are Gord's song, no one elses. Although, I would rather have had Gord say no you can't sing my song than her not wanting to. She's not very bright on that "note".

If you'd like to hear live versions of her music, go to www.KCRW.com
click on find it, then Morning Becomes Eclectic, and scroll down the page until you see KD's name. I believe you can even watch the performance. This isn't the performance originally referenced, but I believe it's showcasing the same album. Enjoy.
