i was wondering if horn payne is an actual town i canada, or
some fictitious name he uses in the lyrics to the song.

If I can remember...........

Horn Payne is a small town north of wherever,
north of Orillia. GL was with one of his Friends one day and decided to take a trip to Horn Payne. If my memory serves me right there was a company who used to send laundry down to GL fathers' laundry company and it came from Horn Payne. GL remembered this and he always wanted to go to Horn Payne. He went by train, and if you know anything about the Canadien rail system, it was on time.

I will never forget the time I was in Toronto staying on the 20th floor of some hotel and seeing the train that comes from Vancouver (3,000 miles away) to Toronto exactly on time.

The American Air Lines can't have a airplane on time from Cincinnati, Ohio to Cleveland, Ohio on time and its only 250 miles away.

Let's hear from the Canadien's on this site.

Hornepayne is due north of Sault Ste.Marie Michigan and Sault Ste. Marie, Ontario about 250 miles. That takes you north of Lake Superior on a dirt highway #631 between Hwy.#11 (the Trans Canada Highway which starts at Lake Ontario in Toronto is called Yonge St. - the longest road in the world!)
and Hwy.#17. It's up in the "bush" as Northern Ontario folks call it. Having driven every god-forsaken road and rode several railway cars in Northern Ontario all my life as a kid following my gold mining
grandfather around I can vouch for the serenity and beauty of the land and it's lakes. The Northern Lights are clearly visible and the fishin is great! Gord would have taken Hwy.400 from Toronto, to Hwy.#69, bypassing Orillia if he was in a hurry, rounding Georgian Bay, north to Sudbury (nickel mining) and west across 17 to Sault Ste. Marie. Head north around Lake Superior for about 200 miles and hang a right on 631 right to Hornepayne!.

I didn't mention that Sault St.Marie is about 400 miles from Toronto. we measure in kilometres now but I was taught miles back in the day!
