in Cabaret, right before the lines:
"From the coast of California
Up to the Oregon border"
it sounded like he had messed up or something because you can hear him letting out an exasperated sigh... Anyone know what happened?

While, the zippo story has merit, I always thought it was a capo being adjusted on a guitar neck and maybe a cigarette puff.

Now on Simon and Garfunkel's Bookends album, there's a definite match strike and a puff or two before the song Overs begins.

Borderstone 05-04-2006 07:43 PM

Maybe Simon & Garfunkel did that for effect?

Someone drinkig a beer while recording a song back then does not surprise me at all. Labels back then pretty much let artists do as they pleased back then...at least until it became an embarrasment to the label.

It was approx. 6 years before he quit drinking. As Richard Harison says in the NG link it was a Budweiser....he'd know...he knows Lightfoot sound from the 70's I believe - concert sound manager as well I think...

He was popping a bear tab -- true.

Now where i come from in the Colorado Rockies, a man has to be careful when poppin' a bear tab - 'specially a Grizz'

There's a picture in one of the CD jackets (I'm not sure which one) of Gord playing the guitar, and there's a bottle of Heineken on the table. I seem to remember there being another reference to Heineken as well.

To formely lavender, could this be the album. 'Cold On The Shoulder?'

To James Suber, that 'exasperated sigh,' on Cabaret, sounds to me like its part of the song he's in a Cabaret havin the most delicious brew, and that sigh to me anyway fits in there beautifully.
