Did anyone else catch the Today Show on thursday Sept 23rd. Jon Stewart was on talking about his new book, when the Cat Stevens deportation was mentioned. Stewart said something like that was great, now if they get Gordon Lightfoot, they'll really have something.

I saw that segment with Jon Stewart, wher he made jokes about Cat Stevens, and then said, "now, if they get Gordon Lightfoot...". Personally, I do not think Jon meant any ill will toward Gord. He probably popped up in his head because Gord is in the news. It did not offend me - just a bit of bad humour, nothing evil intended.
You all know me. If I had an inkling (who thought of that word, anyway?), I would raise H*!#% with the Jon Stewart camp. Just my opinion...

Sound pretty funny to me. Anyone upset with what Stewart said needs to give their head a serious shake and get a life

the Stewart delivery seemed funny to me, whereas the Dallas Telegram one ('crummy folksingers') seemed like crummy humour, lol

I didn't see the segment, but after hearing/reading about it, I just assumed he was being sarcastic as so many folks have been in joking about how much safer they feel knowing that Cat Stevens wasn't allowed in the country.

Going further with the Cat Stevens issue, it really shows how the media can distort things or leave incorrect impressions in the public's mind.

A reporter stated that Cat Stevens said he supported having Salman Rushdie executed for writing his book. Stevens later came out and said that he was taken out of context and made a point of stating he did not support this execution edict from the Ayotollah Khommeni. However I think most people still believe he supported the execution order and the media of course made no real effort to correct this perception

I know that from being on the inside of stories (from the course of my work) that you can only believe about half of what you hear and read in the media, they tend to get things about half right on average

Jon Stewart's a stand up comic (formerly) of course he was being sarcastic. http://www.corfid.com/ubb/rolleyes.gif

I bet if Bill Mahr (however it's spelled) had said it,no one would doubt he was joking.

I think it's good to hear his name mentioned on TV in any context, except truly negative. http://www.corfid.com/ubb/smile.gif

Later! http://www.corfid.com/ubb/cool.gif
