I'm a long time fan, and just wanted to know what's up with Gord?
How's his health?
How old is he?
Still touring?
I look forward to hearing from y'all...
Cheers, Elvira Jones

"Elvira!" :D "Giddie-ap a dow wop a do wop pa mow-mow!" LOL! Couldn't resist! ;)

Welcome Elvira J. :) ,I see you posted quite early this morning. I'm actually up early myself & am at the library at opening time. (12pm AZ time.)

Well,as far as how Gordon is,if you didn't hear about what happened in 2002,after a severe scare & being in a coma for a month,he had abdominal surgery and thankfully recovered almost a year later.

On May 11th,2004 he released the CD,"Harmony" on the Canadian label "Linus". It sold moderatley and is fantastic & still in record stores that sell new CD's.

As of late he's been having a bit of trouble with his arm & playing guitar but he's not taking any chances this time.

Yep,Gordon is still touring! :) In fact he's been on tour all this year and last year played at the Canadian "Live8" show. He's coming here to Phoenix in January. Check http://www.lightfoot.ca
for more complete tour info.
Oh and he's 67 right now but turning 68 on November 17th.

You may also want to note that next month will be 30 years since,"The Wreck Of The Edmund Fitzgerald" peaked at #2 on the Billboard Hot 100.
Exactly one year after that shipwreck occoured & also on Gord's 38th b-day that year.

Once again, welcome and we hope you stay awhile. :)

and the fact that if she really was a great fan she would have been checking out the posts on this site and gotten the answers herself. must be the shrink for santa and his helpers.

brink- 10-01-2006 09:50 PM

must be a relative?

And I was like Walter ready to welcome Elvira here myself together with a cross reference to the Elvira Madigan theme from the 60's film of that name (actually Köchel 457, the 21st of the series of piano concerti by Mr Mozart of the Wolf Gang, but I paused because I too thought it odd that a self proclaimed "long time fan" newbie having discovered this forum would have taken at least a cursory peek at the current topics and even consulted the biography section of this wonderful website. Instead he/she jumped in with both feet and asked questions whose answers would be patently obvious to any genuine fan who is reasonably curious and is just starting out exploring the extensive internet world of Gordon Lightfoot.
I therefore smelled a troll and was very pleased that both Jesse-Joe and brink stepped up and expressed their cynicisms.
If Evira is a genuine fan then IMHO it behooves him/her to reintroduce him/herself and explain his/her profile's reference to the North Pole.
And yes I do know that such a place allegedly exists in New York state as per the above link but a google search for the obvious professional internet reference produces:-
"Your search - north pole ny psychiatrist "elvira jones" - did not match any documents."
So "Elvira" now say your piece please

Well folks, what can I say? I'm just the unassuming kind. :) No,I've never heard of that reference,so I could only think that it was just a new user. ;)

Brand new on this site... I saw Gordon on Sept 23rd in Aurora, ILL. He sounded great. Looks like the grind of the business is on him. I'm looking for the music teacher from Effingham that took my picture with him to get in touch via E-mail with me

Welcome, Bob.
As a side note, we have quite a few Morrows up here in Northern Maine. In fact, I think I'm related to a few of them.

Has anybody else noticed that Elvira Jones has now joined the list of probable trolls who tend to post once, making just one inconsequential comment or question, see a number of replies, some as in Walter's initial fulsome response most carefully thought out and useful, plus a modicum of criticism or querulous speculation then never bother to reply with fulsome or otherwise thanks
his/her/its so far complete lack of explanation indicates to me the strong possibility that "Elvira" is yet another such ungrateful parasite

Hey,

I'm gonna try it. Sometime in the future, I will register under another screen name, ask an innocuous question, and then see who catches on. It may be today, tomorrow, or next year.....If caught, I will quickly acknowledge the sleuthing ability of the nabber. Catch me if you can.....

Peter Bro10 10-04-2006 03:25 PM

I certainly hope you don't thnk I'm one of those ungrateful parasites!

Most certainly not Peter
you came across as a most respectful young man and you have now posted several times but I note not yet included a formally acknowledgment expressing your thanks to Annie!!!
John
I am however also sure that we all look forward to resding more revelations on your Lightfoot experiences..,Has your Mom been a fan for a long time and how extensive is her collection of Gord's albums. Leading to the obvious corollary which songs zre so far your favourites?
Tricky question but useful for you to look back on your initial answer as you hear more and like the rest of us change your list daily

Trolls are usually very easy to spot. Why dont you all just ignore them rather than fuel their sickness with responses.
