well i don't know what all that means Watchman but I'm sure she has done a great rendition of the songs she has chosen...
i'm especially looking forward to hearing After The Gold Rush, Hallelujah, Bird on a Wire and Helpless. |

wow, yeah, there's the image (one that i prefer to see on radio) and then there's that voice and delivery, spectacular, imo
odd, with so many artists and compostions to choose from that there are multiple selections from a small handful of writers if these selections are supposed to be hymn-ish (not sure what the definition of that is) then i could have only recommended the down-tempo version of The Way I feel (vs, uptempo one covered wonderfully by Cowboy Junkies) or perhaps Looking at the Rain or Too Late for Praying... i think she could do something powerful and moving with those, but all hindsight now... i won't be buying this as a slight aside, again, just imo, i think we're fortunate that the Cryin' duet was captured before we lost Orbison (actually, the video doesn't bother me at all but i prefer to listen to this recording with eyes closed as those voices soar where i believe few have flown...Gordon's been there too http://www.corfid.com/ubb/smile.gif ) jj |

From today's Toronto Star:- http://www.thestar.com/NASApp/cs/Con...=1086432226259
The 42-year-old singer's Hymns Of The 49th Parallel, due out July 27, is an all-Canadian homage to some of lang's favourite, homegrown artists Given the wealth of potential material, devising a songlist was the other tricky part. She said she went through more than 40 Ian & Sylvia records, and researched everyone from Gordon Lightfoot to Wilf Carter and the McGarrigles.Pretty poor resesarch I'd say. I guess she just doesn't like Gord and/or Gord doesn't like her!!! But then what else would you expect of someone else like our Dunkin who shelters behind initials instead of a proper name?? ------------------ My Gordon Lightfoot webring starts at http://www.johnfowles.org.uk/lightfoot |
