Bob Dylan memoir coming in October

NEW YORK—The famously private Bob Dylan will shed light on his life and four-decade career as a singer-songwriter in a memoir to be published this autumn, his publisher said yesterday.

Dylan's Chronicles: Volume One (Simon & Schuster), the first of a planned three-book series, is a first-person narrative from the 63-year-old music icon, who rose to fame in the early 1960s and whose musical style ranged from folk and blues to rock, country and gospel.

The 304-page book is due out Oct. 12 and will be followed about a week later by an updated edition of Lyrics: 1962-2001, a compendium of lyrics to nearly every Dylan song. He previously published Tarantula, a 1971 book of poems.

I'll definitely be buying those books when they come out. That would be nice if Gord would do the same.

Tyler 08-25-2004 02:20 PM

It would be great if Gord did that. Can you imagine the stuff Dylan has done if it is going to take three books!

bob mentioned this on a promo interview for his love & theft album in spetember 2001 and said it was meant to be out by christmas of that year!

hopefully this date now wont get delayed again.. i'm really looking forward to it and since its released a week before my birthday, i'm dropping hints to friends here about it coming out then!

Volumn one.

Of course.

He's writing a trilogy. Leave it to Dyland. Gotta love it.

I would love a memoir from Gord, as we all would, but I don't think it's going happen.

Auburn Annie 08-25-2004 08:21 PM

I've suggested he write one just for his kids and grandkids, not for publication, but so they'd know what his life was like as a boy and coming up in the business. The older children have their memories, of course, but filtered through their young eyes (and what they heard from other family members.)

That would be a lovely thing for them. Wonder if he'd do it? hmmm.
What a nice idea, Annie http://www.corfid.com/ubb/smile.gif

Annie and all,
I didnt see this thread and reposted the Dylan book news. Sorreeeeeeeee!
It's all about time zones, guys. http://www.corfid.com/ubb/frown.gif

September of 2001? I think we know the obvious reason why Dylan's project didn't arrive that year.
As for Gordon,as we all would,I'd buy it but only if he himself wrote it and also put out a complete lyrics book as well. Maybe even a Gord's Gold 3 to accompny it all. http://www.corfid.com/ubb/smile.gif

Dylan did an interview in September 2001 saying that it would be out by Christmas 2001. What's obvious that it didn't come out? Surely it has nothing to do with Gords illness.

Borderstone 08-26-2004 06:05 AM

Maybe I should have specified,September 11th,2001. Does that help? Let me know.

You mean that 9/11 caused nearly a 3 year delay in releasing his book? Wow. Did you read something about this or just speculating? Books were being published in droves after 9/11. Books ranging from Bush and Clinton to weight loss secrets and global warming.

Nothing surrounding Dylan is obvious much less a book being delayed by 3 years, and still it may get delayed again. If it get's delayed again, I wonder if it is because of 9/11?? Maybe you heard an interview or read something that I didn't. You may be correct but it's not obvious. By the way, Love And Theft was released on September 11, 2001.

bjb 08-26-2004 01:23 PM

I know I've heard (or read) an interview where Gordon was asked if he was ever tempted to write a book and "set the record straight". He replied that he's tempted to let things lie because raising old ghosts has a habit of coming back to bite you (or similar words to that). Anybody else recall that interview?

joveski 08-26-2004 04:36 PM

true watchman!

love and theft came out that day. actually, the interview that i mentioned was conducted in rome in july.. it only staretd circulating in audio in spetember 2001. dylan said it was finished and should be out. it had nothing to do with 9/11.... just dylan's usual tricks and changing his mind whenever he feels

Borderstone 08-26-2004 10:38 PM

Yes,I was only guessing. Joveski sounds right,he just changed his mind. (Maybe because of 9/11?) Anyway,I'll stop about that now.

great

TheWatchman 08-27-2004 05:52 AM

Great indeed.

B, Inleu of telling you that your 9/11 theory was way out there, my questions addressed to you were rhetorical. Ummm, an attempt to get you to think about what you were writing.
