Hey guys, despite all your good advice, I found him last night to not be so nice and wanted to have me escorted out by security.

i didn't even do nothing except want to wait. But he already had his people he wanted to see. Maybe 5 couples. We were sitting by one and they tried to get us in, but they woudln't let us. i started crying a little. I was told i couldn't wait by the back door eiter and he was telling me one more time ifI didn't leave, he would physically escort me. That didn't make my boyfriend too happpy. I think I could of got in too becasue one of Gords guys was checking for me. i had my songbook and gold pen and it was all very disappointing. And to be perfectly honest, the show wasn't that great either. I loved it, don't get me wrong, but it lacked personality. It seemed kinda canned so to speak.

I guess i looked up to him, his music got me through some very hard times in my life and I feel let down. Plus, it was hard for me to go get everything i needed for an autograph, i am shy that way.

All in all, i met some nice pople at our table, drank too much wine and gambled a bit and lost. But i am definatly crushed that my hero ditched me.

Hope i didn't sound too bitchy, but I am sad about this, real sad. Plus the tickets were $55.00 thats expensive for a single mom.

I'm pretty sure there has to be more to it than not wanting to meet you. Maybe he was having a bad day or something if the show wasn't too great?. Everyone here seems to think he's a nice guy. I haven't met him (and probabaly never will since I don't think he'll ever come back to melbourne, but that's a different story), but I don't think he'd physically escort someone out. Cheer up.

I've been to several Lightfoot concerts and have never had the nerve to attempt to get an autograph because I'm highly sensitive.
I'm a little unclear about a few of the particulars in your case. Was it Gordon Lightfoot himself who was insisting that you leave, or was it his manager or some other aide? Did Gord (or his assistant) say that he personally would physically escort you out if you did not leave, or did he say that security would do it? I'm having a tough time getting a mental picture of the whole thing.
It seems like it would be better for P.R. purposes if Gordon were to let someone else be the heavy, but maybe after a really bad day, he doesn't particularly care.

It was a security gaurd asking me to leave. It wasn't the man himself. And it was casino security, so i guess he was extra mean. There wasn't anymore them 10 people waiting and i was just waiting for one of his guys to come back and tell me if i could stay or not and this big bully just got in my face. He's lucky i didn't use my yellow belt talents, lol. I am sensitive too and normally wouldn't of attempted such a thing, but I thought that since the theater only seats 500 and we were in the front row. maybe i would have a chance.

I'm not holding it against Gordon. I work with elderly refugees though and i know that we always have time for their problems everyday and i guess I just felt that someones salary that i was helping to pay could spend 2 minutes signing his own box set for me. I was the only one there who bothered to stand up for him at the end. his bass player appreciate me through the whole thing, i made him smile a lot.

He did close with Old dans Records which i really love. Last autograph for me though.

Gord and his band are not above anyone in my opinion. They are very down to earth guys and are more than willing to sign an autograph if given the chance.

No "groupies" or fans unless they are invited or have backstage passes. I found that out after a concert in 1975 where I climbed over a rope to go talk to Merle Haggard's lead guitar player, Roy Nichols. I was met by a fellow that looked like he played football at UCSB. Although he was civil he insisted that this was considered "backstage", and unless I had a pass, the "door" was "that way". Unless the security officer hears from someone "in authority" (GL, or Barry Harvey) they tend to stick by rules they themselves didn't make and may not even agree with.

An independent study of who answers or is most accomodating with fans, Lightfoot rated very high, when sending something to his office in Toronto. Autographs and personal comments and such. I don't know anything about autographs (as seen above) so perhaps others in this forum can assist.

I think the lesson here is to not try to get backstage -- the previous poster has it right. The venue controls that door and without a pass obtained earlier from someone in the band, trying to get backstage is likely to be futile. After the show, wander back around to the outside back door where you see the band's big truck waiting to load up equipment. If you are patient (45 min. to an hour after end of show), you will meet them on their way out. Those who have done this, without fail, have met GL and found him to be exactly as he is described, gracious and more than willing to talk and pose for pictures and give autographs.

i went to see g.l at the sands in suttons bay mich. i also waited for 1 hour at the door hoping to get an autograph i was seen by the manager ect. but they acted like they didn't see me. my self and a lady were the only 2 people standing there. it was rather humilating. but i'm still a fan and i will go to see him again

I had the chance to see him at the Fox Theatre in Detroit,MI. That was the best concert I have ever seen. http://www.corfid.com/ubb/smile.gif

I owe my dad a big thank because if it wasn't for him I would have never known who he was. My dad has been a big fan of his since the early seventies. So, when I was born in 1975 he made sure I knew who he was.
