White dress shirt and striped tie with jeans - can you dig it?

And according to http://deena.ca/lightfoot_gordon.html
he was presented with an honorary law degree (it's also at Wayne Francis' site.) David Suzuki got the same honorary degree from Trent University 2 years later. |
cool pic John thanks. It is amazing after all the times of searching that new pics keep coming up.

He certainly takes a better graduation picture than his friend, Dr. Bob

Oh yeah, that's a 70's tie all right. Right out of a Bob Newhart episoide. I have fond memories of confiscating several of those ties from my father's collection sometime in the mid-80's in an effort to save the family further embarassment. That sucker's gotta be three or four inches wide! I can probably guess the color scheme too; burnt orange red black and white *shudders*.

Is it just me or does Gordon appear to look like the professer in the movie,"Goodbye Mr. Chips?" http://www.corfid.com/ubb/biggrin.gif
As for Bob,his face looks as long as E-ore's from Winnie the Pooh! He looks like he's about to draw a weapon. http://www.corfid.com/ubb/eek.gif (Nothing to joke about,I know.) Later! http://www.corfid.com/ubb/cool.gif By the way,I like those ties! http://www.corfid.com/ubb/smile.gif ------------------ "A knight of the road, going back to a place where he might get warm." ;) - Borderstone |

Peter is seen here with Petula Clark in the film 1969 musical version of Goodbye Mr Chips http://i.imdb.com/Photos/Mptv/1077/5800_0053.jpg Incidentally much of that film was shot in my hometown (Sherborne Dorset England). In fact there is a picture of Sherborne station masquerading as "Brookfield" http://i.imdb.com/Photos/Mptv/1077/5800_0050.jpg with O'Toole looking even more like Gord. Too bad that the film was made before IYCRMM became a hit because although O'Toole (who I very much admire) did a reasonable job vocally this could have been an excellent debut film for Gord IMHO and furthermore this answers the oft-asked question of who could play Gord in a film of his life (although I believe Peter is unfortunately now looking more like his age (which is some 6 years greater than Gord) the picture above is from a film gallery page at:= http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0064382/photogallery Many more stills from the film including a nice shot of the Sherborne school quadrangle are at:- http://www.realitymouse.com/otoole/pictures/chips.html I visited Sherborne in 1968 while the town was decorated for the filmimg (no TV antennae left on view and especially false glassfibre walls with painted on bird droppings !!) and the first property I purchased there was an an apartment in an old large house that had been used as a dormitary for some of the hundreds of extras used as boys for the school ------------------ My Gordon Lightfoot webring starts at http://www.johnfowles.org.uk/lightfoot [This message has been edited by johnfowles (edited June 30, 2004).] |
That's exactly the movie I'm talking about. I finally got to see it about 2 years ago on a video from my former 2nd home, the library! http://www.corfid.com/ubb/biggrin.gif I totally did not expect his wife to get killed in the movie. http://www.corfid.com/ubb/eek.gif I haven't seen the B & W one. Now I'll have to rent it again just to see the comparison between him 7 GL. http://www.corfid.com/ubb/smile.gif The pictures you put up don't seem to be appearing.
I think it's totally cool that you were there when it all took place. http://www.corfid.com/ubb/smile.gif The closest I came to something like that,my family went to the Del Mar,CA fair in 1978 and there were photographs posted everywhere showing it was the site of the grande finale number in the movie Grease. I even got to be on the infamous "shake-shack!" http://www.corfid.com/ubb/biggrin.gif By the way,in the top picture of this thread, isn't that Christopher Reeve? Looks like him. Been me,Aurevoir! http://www.corfid.com/ubb/cool.gif ------------------ "A knight of the road, going back to a place where he might get warm." http://www.corfid.com/ubb/wink.gif - Borderstone [This message has been edited by Borderstone (edited July 01, 2004).] |
