Which Gord song do you think is the hardest to sing(for whatever reason)?

"Never Too Close". I don't know why, but
I battle with that song. It's one of those songs that I've talked about in an earlier
topic that almost demands Gord's
voice to do it.

I am totally new to this forum - although I read it every day. I just had to post a reply to this question 'cause I often marvel at how sophisticated and demanding some of GL's songs are. Songs like Now and Then, Why Should I Feel Blue?, or Too Late For Prayin' present real vocal, lyrical, and rhythmic challenges. It takes a consummate artist to perform a song like Too Late For Prayin' and connect with an audience -- there is so much there.

This is my first - ever - of posting to a forum. Thanks for listening !

For me, it would have to be "Steel Rail Blues." It requires too great a range.

I've never been able to handle "Beautiful". It's a terrific song, but only till I try singing it. It's like someone dancing Swan Lake with a steel toed boot on one foot and a swim fin on the other.

Borderstone 04-15-2004 01:28 AM

I can do Beautiful! No way in the world though would I attempt,"The Auctioneer!!"

Too fast and the words aren't on the LP lyric sheet. Yes,I know I can get the lyrics online but it's just too fast. Later! http://www.corfid.com/ubb/cool.gif

Seattle Rain,
welcome! Good to hear from you.

I was out of time earlier but I'll tell you what mine WOULD be if I tried to sing aloud. Ghosts Of Cape Horn.

Brian,

While I'm sure you do a much better job of singing Beautiful than you think, your analogy made me giggle. If you don't mind, I may have to store it away in my file of clever comments and borrow it sometime http://www.corfid.com/ubb/smile.gif

I would have to say Nous Vivons Ensemble because you'd have to learn a whole new language to sing the last half of the song. http://www.corfid.com/ubb/wink.gif

I think Wreck is a fairly hard song to perform well. The tune is repetitious throughout the song, and the only way past that is to emotionally build up to the verse where the ship sinks, and then slowly bring it back down and try to emphasize the sadness of the last verse. It can be a very compelling song if done correctly, and a very boring song if done incorrectly.

easily done!

"Softly" indeed difficult to sing especially the original version. Gord seems to have some trouble now hitting the high notes. CRT I notice the "round the Eastern Shore" part he can't get as high as he used to. Still enjoy his music no matter how his voice sounds.

Not really as difficult as it may seem. I learned it years ago, without printed lyrics, just by repeated listenings and mimicking...and it is my understanding that while he wrote it, Gord is not fluent in French, had some help writing it and basically learned those lyrics just for the song; a goodwill gesture to French Canadians.

Does he sing CRT on a different note now? The same as the one on the GL Tribue album?
