I hope this hasn't been covered before, but I fear it has been, I am new to this site, and only recently have I become a Gordon Lightfoot listener.
I have his Complete greatest hits, (which I love) and was wondering where to go from here. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks |

Great advice Oh Moderator Char But why not stress that it pays to start at the very beginning (as far as the available retail sales go that is) This means the first five United Artists albums from wayback in the sixties ( unlike many other artists Gord's early work IMHO has stood the test of time extremely well whatever he thinks of the early recordings I will ask regulars here to forgive me for sending our new friend to my previous research on Shazia's behalf at:- http://www.corfid.com/ubb/Forum1/HTML/002090.html ------------------ My Gordon Lightfoot webring starts at http://www.johnfowles.org.uk/lightfoot |

but my dear John....I have ulterior motives....once inside the record store leafing through the albums (CD's) Travis will have to give in and buy all that are available......it's just the right thing to do! And he will thank me when all is said and done and sung....

As luck would have it, about a year ago, my wife bought for me, "The United Artists Collection". I just never listened to it until recently. It is beautiful. |

I reccomend IYCRMM. Might as well start with the album that got him fully started in the US.

I feel so FOOLISH!! I was sitting around feeling very smug that I had ordered the Tribute album as soon as it was out, and being surprised that people were just finding out about it and Aengus Finnan's "Lightfoot" song, when I finally went out and found Songbook. I had assumed that it was just another compilation of what I already have (and I have all but the first 2 United Artists records), BUT BOY WAS I WRONG!! Yes, absolutely, everyone who has loved GL for a zillion years and everyone who is just finding out about him should have Songbook. Run, do not walk, to your nearest music store!!!

Rona,
I did the same thing, exactly! Remember that two record set entitled "Songbook" that Pair Records put out in 1985? That's what I thought it referred to,and I have that. Then I saw it on Amazon and freaked. Bought it immediately. Ain't it great?! |
I would recommend Salute.
Also... I used to know a Travis McGee at the University of Oklahoma who was a musician. He worked for the campus newspaper with me had a brother named Kieran who actually put out a CD (which I bought a copy of). You don't happen to be that Travis, do you? Jeff |
Sorry, jeffyjo, I am not your guy. I live in Fredericksburg, Va. I am not a musician, although I wish I was.
