Set List - Springfield, IL 09 / 14 / 11

Great theatre on U of I Springfield campus. Gord came out in his red velvet jacket and white cowboy boots. ( looked sharp!) Gord came out with a 'concerned' look on his face, but that quickly changed.

1. Triangle
2. Cotton Jenny
3. 14 Karat Gold
4. Never Too Close
5. A Painter Passing Through
6. Let It Ride
7. Christian Island
8. Shadows
9. Beautiful
10. Carefree Highway
11. Hangdog Hotel Room
12. Ribbon of Darkness ( as usual, Gord cut off 'over me' at the end, which a fan sang aloud / Gord said, "As they say in Mexico, "You are the weiner (winner)" to audience laughter.
13. Sundown
14. "another big song from the same album, meaning it takes a lot of energy to do it, being 72 years old. And others (band) swiftly following behind." The Watchman's Gone

15. Alberta Bound (He talked about going out to have a cigarette like Charlie Sheen during the intermission.

( 20 minute intermission )

Gord came out in a blue/purple paisley jacket and black cowboy boots (sharp again!)
16. Wreck of the Edmund Fitzgerald (standing ovation) ( after the song he said " A modern-day Flying Dutchman of the Great Lakes".)
17. "Another song about the Great Lakes. Kinda. Sorta." (audience laughter)
Ringneck Loon ( someone in the back of the theatre was making loon calls at points during the song, not disruptive, but gave a nice color to the song. Hope Gord didn't mind.
18. Don Quixote
19. " A song I wrote for my 2nd ex-old lady. As Willie Nelson says, 'additional wives'."
(audience laughter) Clouds Of Loneliness
20. "We even had a video of this one. A video." In My Fashion
21. " I wrote this one for my 1st ex-old lady." Talked about being separated by the Atlantic Ocean from his children. She was living in France with the 2 kids and it would be nice if they could just get on a plane and come see him. "They were too young."
If Children Had Wings
22. If You Could Read My Mind (standing ovation/nice applause) ) (I think he always sounds the best on this song)
23. Restless (nice blue lighting) After the song Gord said, "That song was once reviewed in Field and Stream magazine." (audience laughter)
24. Baby Step Back (nice red lights on backdrop curtains)
25. "We'll give it a shot at Winter's Night. It's a tricky one. It doesn't sound tricky, but it is. At least for me it is." (audience laughter) Song For A Winter's Night
26. Early Morning Rain (Gord talked about how this might his most famous song possibly. Maybe because of all the covers it has had over the years.) (Personally, the re-recording on Gord's Gold is in my top 5 GL songs - could listen to it all day)

(encore)
27. Gord came out and said, "Thanks! It's nice to be back in Springfield again!" (audience laughter) Rainy Day People

Good to see Tim and family again , good to meet Gloria and Steve all from Corfid. Nice Edmund Fitzgerald shirt, Steve. Hope you took off the sweater so others could enjoy it also.
As always, good to talk with the band and Gord afterwards. As we were leaving the stage door entrance to go home after talking with Rick, Gord was coming down the stairs and called to us "Thanks for coming out!" We had already talked with him and gotten a nice picture. They were getting ready to take off to the hotel, and sure he had other things on his mind, but still took the opportunity to thank us again. It just shows how much Gord still really loves what he is doing! It was a great evening. Got back home at 1:45 a.m., as did the other Corfidians I have mentioned here. But, as usual, it was worth it!

Kelly, you did a great job. After my sister and I went back downstairs we thought...why not go back up and see if we could meet him. So I ask the valet parking attendant how long they would be around and she said they were wanting to wrap it up quickly so we thought we better wait and get the car. Didn't want to walk back to Greene County!
It was a great show!

I moved this from another thread since I should have posted it here to begin with. Hope the moderators don't fire me. I have a few good and not so good pics from the fourth row which I hope I can figure out how to post.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
I was doing the set-list til intermission, then I met and spoke with Kelly and his wife. He appeared to be much better organized than I. I have a tiny notebook and usually end up scribbling one song over another in the dark; then if I can make out the names, I have to decide which one came first. He said he would post the list here unless someone beat him to it. That has happened to me before too.

Very nice meeting and speaking to the Davis's. Cool custom made concert T-shirts too!

Last night's show was the first one I have attended where an audience member finished "Ribbon of Darkness" when Gord just lets the ending hang. It was on key, in time and sounded great. The crowd applauded and laughed, Gord looked up and grinned, gave a thumbs up....and then said "Like they say in Mexico, YOU sir are a wiener!"

Can't remember the last time I heard Christian Island done, the 70s, if ever.

Gord said he hadn't been to Springfield for 25 years. Asked how to pronounce Sangamon...got a lot of help from the audience.

Opened with the red smoking jacket, wore the black shirt and vest after the break.

I was thrilled he did If Children Had Wings. A big favorite of mine and since he's put it back in the rotation (and slightly changed the lyrics) I have only heard it one or two other times.

Gord was in a good mood and sounded great on most of the tunes. A bit out of breath on just a couple. Introduced the band twice, both halves. Before introducing Carter Lancaster the first time, made a mention of Terry's passing. The Straw Boss looked and sounded great with that new black bass and that big white ponytail.

First show in these later years (other than casino with no break) where I heard The Wreck open the second set instead of end the first.

All I can think of for now. A great show and a great time had by all.

Steve

Here's another. I guess I'm doing something wrong, I can only post one at a time.
