I just said okay...not a big Barbra fan. It's jazzy, not a good style for this song and I like the original much better.

Well, maybe Roger Miller could sing it better :)

sorry to be so tough on you RM, but you asked for honesty... you got it!
Tripe doesn't seem so bad now....

Hey, how come I can't vote twice???

If I can only die once, you can only vote once.

Man, that 'Babs' garbage must be worse than I thought. And I thought it was pretty bad. I voted with the majority, but at the time I thought I was just being hard on myself.

Oh, sure. Just when the tickets for Ron's execution were selling so well....

Re: Barbra Streisand

Execution is a bit strong, don't you think?
Perhaps a nice flogging will suffice?

Re: Barbra Streisand

Well, he was the one who brought it up.....

I agree. A flogging should be plenty.

I appreciate your fellows' offer of leniency, but the rules are the rules (does anyone actually follow them anymore?).

I figure with the elongated appeals process, I'm good for another 15-20 years, which is far longer than I expect to live.

Plus, this is an "eternal poll" ..... the booths are always open.........

Hey RM, seems to me you're playing on technicalities here!!!
say, are you a lawyer by any chance???
and here I was trying to be nice!!!

I should have noticed that the king of closing dates on polls didn't have one on this one.....

I just poked the "Excellent" hole . . . wonder why?

There's an old saying among musicians:
I may not like what you did, but you did it well.

So, I ain't much into rap . . .
but I can tell when it's done well and when it ain't.

Given the cut was from 1970 and part of her *Stoney End* LP
[her 'not-entirely-awful' attempt at Rock Cred] - the arrangement
fits fine. Actually, it fits excellently for the time and place and purpose
of the Stoney End album.

Don't think for a moment she couldn't bring us each and all
to tears with a whisper of the tune if she chose to do so.

Now, *that* would be sumpin' . . .

Blessings,

Rez

You do bring up a good point even though I won't (and can't) change my vote.

Having kids really made me notice how songs that I wouldn't listen to normally are amazingly well written. The classic for me was in the very late 90s or early 00s when my oldest daughter started blasting Nirvana. For all he dealt with and such Kurt Cobain knew tons about what makes a song tick. Never something I would put on voluntarily but well done within the genre.

I was never a Streisand fan but she knows an awful lot about how to present a song in a way that it connects with a ton of people. Not a bad talent to have.

a talent, yes... but barbra could not move me to tears, unless somehow my desert island collection consisted solely of her catalogue... this grown man (ok, debatable) would be sobbing

Barbra Streisand (1942) and Shirley MacLaine (1934) were born on April 24.

Re: Barbra Streisand

Hey Fezo,

Through my three sons, I've come to truly enjoy a whole scene of musicians otherwise unknown to me. Cool thing is it works both ways.

Back in the late 80's Gord did a night at the San Diego County Fair. After the concert, my oldest [Davey] who was the Ratt and Diamond Dave Roth fanatic said, "Dad, it's sorta nice to just sit back and hear a guy sing his songs."

Big Barry brought us backstage after, and Davey got to speak his sentiment to Gord, who was most graciously and humbly surprised, I do believe.

Oh, btw - I did *not* buy the Stoney End LP . . .

Blessings,

Rez

Way cool. My daughter the Nirvana fan likes Lightfoot a whole bunch. At one point she was stealing all my Beatles music. Has a very interesting idea of whta's good and definitely has an ear for filtering out the junk.

My 16 year old has nice varied tastes as well. The 7 year olds are still into Hannah Montana so we'll see how that goes as they get older.

Re: Barbra Streisand

I think Babs' singing is awesome!!! Met her years ago in NYC. Not the warmest person I ever met but if I could sing like she does I might not be 'warm' either! And when she sings "Cryin' Time" with Brother Ray...well it doesn't get much better than that.
