it was nice of Gord to agree to sing and use that guys guitar after finding a capo and a dime..lol
(despite saying he didn't want to/wasn't prepared/didn't bring his guitar, and Reisman putting him on the spot twice)

Indeed! And let's not forget to mention Gord's patience and graciousness in signing every CD and posing for every picture right to the end. I stayed till he left at 9:30 p.m., that's a full hour and a half of signing after a one-hour interview. Whew.

Rick Haynes also showed up, it was nice to see him standing by.

Re: CD Launch @ Indigo Books-pics and video

I left before he finished so good to know he left everyone happy. He's a trooper!

I got into Toronto in the early afternoon between rain showers. I did a bit of shopping and had a bite to eat. I scoped out the store and came back around 4:30 or so. Todd was there and the folks were setting up the chairs and stage. There were about 15 people in line waiting to be seated. Todd and I sat in the fourth row I think and away from the centre aisle. The stage had a small table and 2 chairs to begin with but after the question section that changed to a writing desk and chair for Gordon to sit at.They had handed out sticky notes for us to put our names on and stick them to the booklet. The booklet was to be out of the CD cover and Gordon would sign his name with a silver Sharpie and personalize it on the front.

He came in to a standing ovation which was lovely and he was all smiles as you could see in the video. I found the moderator not all that familiar with all things Lightfoot and seemed to always hark back to the party/drinking stage of life Lightfoot gave up 30 years ago. She interrupted him and as I said earlier made him feel obligated to perform. (done with a smile and knowledge that there wasn't much a gentleman like Lightfoot would or could do in those circumstances in front of 300 people) (she owns INDIGO - http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Heather_Reisman - she is married to a very 'accomplished Gerry Schwartz - http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Gerry_Schwartz )Gordon seemed t be enjoying himself and was quite chatty. Especially about canoeing..lol Reisman tried to sidetrack him but he'd have none of it and we all had a chuckle when at one time she thought he'd finished and she tried to say something but he had remembered another portage story.lol What an amazing memory. He seemed relaxed and in no hurry to get things moving.

During the short break while a table was put onstage for him to use to sign the CD's we were instructed that we were to lineup in the centre aisle and file up row by row..When Gordon stepped down he was shaking hands and saying hi to people near the front when he made a beeline down about 4 rows and over 5 people to shake my hand and say HI and get a wee hug and peck on the cheek.SURPRISE! lol

A young fellow in front of me recognized me from corfid and had a book of drawings he had done. He said he was inspired by Lightfoot music and played it while he drew. He wondered whether Gordon would accept his book as a gift. I told him I was sure he would greatly appreciate it. When his turn came up I snapped a couple of photos for him of Gordon listening to him speak about his inspiration and shaking his hand...very moving moment to see.

A couple of other people recognized me too! too funny..

Gordon once more told me when I was getting my CD signed we'd be doing another chat for sure.So that's a great thing to look forward to.. I have to think of questions now! lol
I actually said to him "do you want me to ask you some NEW questions Gordon?" LOL
We always hear the same ones it seems...Of course the main one will be "What's wrong with the Maple Leafs? and how can we fix them?" !!

I got to speak for a while with Anne who helps Gordon run the EMP office.
As TG said, Rick was there with his lovely wife and the new Lightfoot love was watching the proceedings as well. Nice to talk with them for a bit too. Rick is always gracious and generous with his time. Todd was thrilled to get a signature from him.

It was good to speak with TG for a bit and spend some time with Todd (Milton GLFan) We were so busy talking on the subway we missed our stop at Union Station to get the train and had to backtrack. He headed west and I went east...lol
I'm so happy he finally got to meet Gordon and speak to him. His 14 month old son is being introduced to Lightfoot music...I'll let Todd tell you what Gordon said about that..

It was fabulous to see the turnout on such a cold, rainy, windy Toronto night.Indigo was thrilled and I'm sure Gordon felt it was worth a night out too.

If I think of anything else I'll post it..I have to think of questions to ask Gordon and post my YouTube videos..same stuff as above but I was closer..lol

Re: CD Launch @ Indigo Books-pics and video

This is an odd question, I realize, but is GL's new love a tall, svelte woman with grey hair - worn in a bun or pony tail? A hippyish style. I was talking with a lady who was sitting on a bookshelf in the aisle to the right of the "stage" - 20 feet towards the back from the cash register. We had quite an interesting chat though she was quite cryptic and it occurred to me later that she might have been waiting for GL.

What a great guy! So normal. Not many celebrities would hang about and banter in so friendly a way with almost everyone. He even said I couldn't do Winter's night on autoharp. So charming he would even discuss Hugh's room and autoharp versions of his songs that today I noticed he spelled my name wrong on the CD cover ;( ah well.

Here's a picture of him responding to me telling him I was learning Winter's Night on an autoharp!

Re: CD Launch @ Indigo Books-pics and video

No, Gordon's new love isn't that woman with the hair in a bun.
Lori Cullen did SFAWN on autoharp @ Hugh's..It was terrific..
He spelled LINDA wrong?? Oh dear...

I know! Imagine my surprise, I'm now Lina.

I was at Hugh's room on the Friday ... unbelievably fantastic night. Adored Lori's arrangement so I bought her CD. Then 2 others. Hers is the electronic Q autoharp, mine is acoustic - I don't get that funky sound but was super happy to see someone else thought to use the authharp on a Gord song. But he was vehement "you CAN'T do Winter's Night on autoharp!"

Hi Everyone - Just though I'd share my time on Monday evening. What an amazing night!! I arrived (slightly wet) at the Indigo around 3 pm to scope it out. As Char mentioned the weather in Toronto was not very nice. Other then the signs outside the store and the new CD on the shelves it was quiet.

Somewhere around 5:15 a line started to form, and people were in the check out lines with their new cd.

It was an unusual feeling, being a huge fan of Gord’s music for years and now just a couple hours away from meeting him.

I stood in line for a bit and chatted with the other fans; it’s always great to talk Lightfoot to pass the time.

When Char got there we met up and got our place in the line. It was great to see you again and catch up.

We had great seats close to the small stage they had set up. The interview was interesting, some of the questions were quite dated and ones everyone here has heard Gordon answer a million times. They opened it up to questions from the floor and those questions proved to be more interesting and in line with the evening.

Gord looked so relaxed and some of his answers had us all laughing, you’ll see these on the videos posted.

After the interview we went up by row to get our CD covers signed and a chance to say a few words. The moment did not disappoint. I told him that when I’m out in the car with my 14 month old son I play his music. He smiled and said to me “When he grows up and plays the guitar make sure he puts the Capo in the 2nd position” I laughed and told him I would make sure of it.

I also saw Rick Haynes walking thought the aisles looking at books. I cornered him and he graciously signed my CD as well. We had a quick chat and he thanked me for supporting their Music.

On the way home, as Char mentioned we missed our subway stop and almost ended up at Queen’s Park (Ontario Parliament buildings) hahaha

Overall a great night and one I’ll never forget. Here are some more pictures.

Fabulous posts!! It looks and sounds like a wonderful evening.
I'm not sure how edited the vidoes are, (never saw his singing or what led up to it). Char, did the moderator ever call on you?? I saw your hand in the air lots of times. She kept saying that she would get back to you. Did she know your connection to Gordon?

Re: CD Launch @ Indigo Books-pics and video

At the time I had my hand up in the air to ask a question I'm sure she didn't know anything about me..lol, or even afterward for that matter. I think she wanted the mic to get back up front so I could use it. Time ran out tho.. Don't know if she caught Gordon coming down into my row to say hi to me..
I was going to ask him if there were more tour dates to be added for 2012 since it seems like quite a reduced list - There will be more dates in Sept./October..
I found the moderator unprepared and woefully lacking on current issues in regards to recent honours that Lightfoot has rec'd and the very important and prestigous Songwriters Hall of Fame induction in June. She didn't even seem to know the recent album history prior to this LIVE cd. I SO wanted to shout at her several times. She seemed to be fixated on ancient history of women and alcohol binging it up every chance she got. It's probably just as well I didn't get a chance to ask a question - she pissed me off - a lot. Gordon was a gentleman however and was his usual charming self.

What an amazing array of expressions!

Actually Char, I wish you had got to ask some pointed questions. I'm sure there would have been some cheers. HR would like to be considered the queen of Canada's intelligentsia but she came across as just plain ignorant in this interview.

She's a piece of work, that's for sure. She's a savvy business woman, ruthless even but that doesn't equate into a well informed, generous interviewer.
If she didn't own a bookstore and have big money no one who writes a book or releases a CD would give her the time of day. She denies she has a monopoly in the book business but I would disagree...

I had a few different thoughts when I looked at that array of photos, and all the expressions in them. First I remember the young man that owned that face, and how many years have passed, and how much that face has changed. Then I thought what an absolute privilege it has been to be able to watch the aging of that face, and the journey that goes along with it. How fortunate we have all been to have had GL in our lives for so long, and still have him love what he does.

What really concerns me is that she's an annual attendee at the secret globalist Bilderberg meetings, hobnobbing with the world elites behind closed doors. No wonder she has a monopoly on the publishing business in Canada.

My thoughts, too. Those photos are fantastic. I found myself looking for the young GL face each of those pictures. You can still see him. He still has the sparkle in his eyes, and the joy of loving what he does shows in his face. You are right, it has been a privilege to grow old with him.

Re: CD Launch @ Indigo Books-pics and video

She is a bully and had an agenda. To me, it seemed she was rudely pushing to see if she could get more out of GL than he wanted to reveal, misusing her role as host to do so.

She fully understands that GL is reticent about discussing his past --he has said "I don't want to hurt anybody" and he seems genuinely to have moved on. He's not that person anymore, why resurrect that?

But she wanted the notoriety of being the one to get him to reveal some nugget of information. Same with getting him to overcome his reticence about playing unprepared. She would have seen the CBC interview, and how Gord doesn't like to play without being prepared ... so I am more than suspicious about the guy with the guitar and capo being there "coincidentally". Smells a bit like she set it up to ensure Gord had no OUT.

Also the way she said to that person in the audience "this is MY show" was a marker of a big ego. Yes, I'd say its "all about her" in her mind. Maybe I'll download a book off bit torrent in honour of her.

omigoodness when she said that to the woman in the audience she had such a look on her face! I took an instant dislike to her as I watched her looking at people as she made her way thru the crowd leading Gordon to the stage. As if it was all about her and not the legend walking humbly behind her.... good gawd. Had I been her I'd have made sure Gordon knew where the stage was and where he was to walk and I'd have let him lead the way or I'd have been onstage introducing him and let him walk in on his own. I realaize they were in the green room prior to the 7 pm showtime but she could have let Gordon lead the way. And to avoid him being the gentleman and insisting she go first she should have thrown herself from the balcony on the 2nd level.
lol
me bad.

Tell us how you really feel Char :) lol I'd never heard of this woman but I'd wondered too about her interview & what little she seemed to know of his present life. And I had to laugh when she was trying to move on & he kept talking about his canoe trips. I met him during that period of his life for the 1st time & asked about the canoe trips & he did the same thing....just talked & talked about it. I enjoyed every second of it because he was talking about something that was obviously important to him & something he enjoyed.

I was bemused and fascinated at his recall of river names, locations, days on the rivers, portages..all in sequential order of trip..lol
