Twitter (random thought)
I don't understand the usefulness of this technology, but it seems to be gaining in popularity. So, I was thinking.......
If we expose some younger folks to "Summertime Dream", and when it gets to the line "Birds in all creation will be twittering in the trees", we could point out that Lightfoot was ahead of his time. |
Re: Twitter (random thought)
That might be ok, but I'm not sure if us older folks should encourage the younger folks to be climbing trees.

Sadly, wild strawberries don't seem to be as plentiful as they used to be.

That's not funny. So anyway.......I found this blurb about Twitter: What is the Purpose of Twitter? “With Twitter, you can stay hyper-connected to your friends and always know what they’re doing. Or, you can stop following them at any time. You can even set up quiet times on Twitter so you’re not interrupted. Twitter puts you in control and becomes a modern antidote to information overload,” the Twitter website touts.---- Hyper-connected to my friends ? I think I'll pass. |
Re: Twitter (random thought)
I don't have 'hyper' in my vocabulary. For any purpose.
I'll pass too. I don't even have a cell phone. |

Re: Twitter (random thought)
you can't spell twitter without 'teit'..
it's a way for followers (those who subscribe to your twitter) to read all about the inanity and insanity of your life in short little bursts of info-only 140 characters. And you can do likewise. it's not really a forum for chat. just info. The Mayor of Toronto is addicted. good gawd. Sports stars are twits too: http://www.nationalpost.com/sports/s...tml?id=1430958 |

Re: Twitter (random thought)
this helped me catch the drift....
i can't even deal with chatting...when i go into the office they expect us to login to MS Messenger ...i tired to participate initially but it's zaney and exhausting, to me anyhow... now i just ask at the end of the day, 'is there anything i was asked to day that someone else didn't already respond to?' similarily, my new cellphone is decent, it has a battery that doesn't have to be depleted before recharging it (ie. no memory), it has GPS so i can continue to avoid asking for directions and it receives calls or takes messages even in rocky areas (which the last one couldn't)...but it also will ring if someone wants to send you a pic they have just taken and sent via their cellphone cam...it's crazy...today i thought there was something urgent and i answered during a busy session...up came text saying "wadda u think of these shoes?" ...then a pic came up showing the fresh shoe pic...then it rang again and up came "how about this pair?"...then i turned off my cellphone...or i thought i did...but it rang again...then i took out the battery |
Re: Twitter (random thought)
did you like the shoes?
;) |
Re: Twitter (random thought)
sure, i eventually replied (sitting in rush hour), "get which ever one best protects your feet from the ground"
i now feel like i am "with it"...that was my 3rd text message reply sent in 2 months ...today, texting... tomorrow, the twittersphere |

Tweet : cant find my keys
-------------------------- I cannot believe anyone over the age of 12 would be interested in twittering. Maybe I'm just getting old and cranky. |

Funny, I thought they meant something else! |

note: at the film theatre last night, the teen gal to the front left of me was glued to her bright and irritating blackberry and had both thumbs keying in stuff occasionally (and frantically)...i imagine she was twittering...i was going to protest but it looked like the usher standing to the side was doing the same thing...i'm glad someone limited the tweeting to 140 characters or she may have never taken a break at all |

Rather disturbing article, with a mention of twitter :

Re: Twitter (random thought)
are not jurors locked up so they don't have access to this stuff?
i read this article from the waiting room paper while twiddling (not twittling!) my thumbs while my vehicle was in sick bay today...I didn't get a lot out of it other than if i lose my wallet i will regret not being a my spaceman, facebookie or twitterer...however, i am a youtubester with no regreats and have reaped many rewards http://www.torontosun.com/comment/co...34621-sun.html |
Re: Twitter (random thought)
I guess judges will have to be much more specific about what jurors can read/research and twitter about..

Scott Feschuk - Macleans Magazine: Take that, Twitter (I mean, Tk tht Twttr) I registered on Twitter a while back, and even wrote a couple tweets, but like many people I’ve found it difficult to adapt to the site’s limit of 140 characters per entry. Simply put, that’s way too many characters. Just like the hip kids today, I harbor a pathological urge to use the chrome-shiny faddishness of social messaging to inform others of my every thought, observation and activity – even when such musings, were they to be uttered verbally, would prompt everyone within a 20-foot radius to contract an acute case of who-the-f%!#-caresosis. But typing 22 to 24 words? Dude, who’s got the time? That’s why I’m introducing my new messaging utility, Bwh. Bwh allows you to keep in touch with friends, update colleagues and perpetuate the illusion that your daily tedium has subtle undertones of meaning. But it does so while keeping postings to a more reasonable number of characters: nine. Also, no vowels. Did you totally sleep in? Let the world know you totally slept in. Just log on to Bwh and type: “Ttl slptn” Future generations will cherish your insight into the human condition. Did you come across something really boring on the Internet? Warn everyone with Bwh: “www=zzzzz” Did seeing a dog in a pet store window make you sad? Don’t keep that kind of emotional gold to yourself. Bwh it! “dg = frwn” Bwh is the future of social messaging, web-savvy interactions and desperate cries for attention. Start Bwhing now before starting to Bwh makes you seem helplessly trendy. |
Re: Twitter (random thought)
pst = hlrs

Re: Twitter (random thought)
I have found that I need vowels .. spin that wheel !
lol deciphering that gave me a hdch.. |
Re: Twitter (random thought)
i think no consonants would be far more interesting (and lead to exciting misunderstandings from the potential ambiguity)
o=iaiou |
Re: Twitter (random thought)
Name that tune JJ - Old MacDonald Had A Farm?? - ei-ei-o ??

Re: Twitter (random thought)
OI have at times amused Susan not with twitterings but some schoolboy acronyms
I guess everybody knows what SWALK means but how's aboot CAPSTAN or BURMA?? |
Re: Twitter (random thought)
lol, and sometimes y...
|
Re: Twitter (random thought)
o=iaiou
? = hilarious I don't think JJ was doing the acronym thing. Acronyms are a different subject altogether.. |
Re: Twitter (random thought)
oh yes, char... mine was just an attempt at the converse to 'pst = hlrs' .... in that case o = post .... just a guess
john, i only know EGBDF and FACE ...yours appears kinkier |
Re: Twitter (random thought)
I deleted my post.....so do not think charlene and jj are talking to the wind.

"MEDIC!!!!" these letter/word games remind me of the old Definition gameshow that we were subjected to up here for 15 years...it was like Wheel of Fortune but interesting in that you had to give a letter away successfully to the opponent before picking one for yourself before solving the puzzle http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hj-5I...eature=related (hey, that's not the original theme music...boo) the announcer was Dave Devall who had that great voice in so many commercials and brought us our cold, wet and/or snowy weather since before I was born...now a Guinness record for longevity http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CxBajvP0qeE he is retiring today, congrats to a true gentleman:clap::clap::clap: |
