Song within a Song

As promised, here is the new thread. The idea is to name a song whose lyrics contain the title of another song. (I had one in mind when I came up with the idea.) So far, I think there have been three responses:

Song: Approaching Lavender

Lyric:

The colors that surround you there will be the shade of Lavender
"SHADOWS" dancing everywhere, like flowers in the rain.

- Jesse Joe

Song: All I'm After

Lyric: All I'm after is to be the flame in your "TATTOO"

- Char

Song: Rosanna

Lyric: the fire glows "SOFTLY"

- JJ

Hope you have fun with the idea! :headbang:

Song : Broken Dreams,

Lyric : There's an ocean in my mind
I'd give the world "If I could" find
A sailing ship and leave the past behind

Congratulations, Buzzard! You did it! You found the "SWAS" that started me on the idea. I'd like to say for your prize you get a free ticket to a GL concert plus a backstage pass :); I'd like to, but I can't! ;)

Maybe another raise for Char?

Now I have to find another SWAS....

Good job, everyone!

Thanks Ann. Please take all of my prize money and use it to double, no triple, Char's salary as moderator.

Here's another SWAS for you - which Lightfoot tune contains the first five words of the Star Spangled Banner (in order)? Hands on buzzers.

And yes Ron, it did hurt!

Re: Song within a Song

Great idea Ann, I'm glad it turned to a thread of its own, it's great ! My first submit:

Within "End of all Time" :

Is there anybody home, is there anyone in there
Who can tell me where I am
~gl

'Is there anybody home' excerpt from above is self-explanatory, but that never stopped me ! Same as song by same title wording as these in green here, within that song "End of All Time" - which I guarantee will after 3 - 4 listenings, will start creeping in your subconscious and you'll find yourself humming it etc,. while you do dishes, or whatever....

Again , Congratulations MandoAnn, excellent thread idea ! very fun..... ( just a hint - after about post # 300 they need dancing girls or a monkey and a kid or something, a good dramatic crisis, anything...lol...to come through to ease the sweat of intense thinking that you can subtly ..actually hear....lol.. its kind of a whirrrrrrscreech....grind, rewind....scriiiiiicccccchwhirrrrrrrrrrBANG GOT IT ! -sound, followed right away by the victorius sound said to be "a match (Ohio Blue Tip) lighting... as discussed in the the infamous 'were you there GL moment' in the end of the AOL alt.musc.lightfoot pre-corfid days , when Tele kidd I think it was amidst many previous conclusions of same, became famous within the GL clan for the "sound" in Cabaret - where the song seemingly splits into a whole new song part. with a kuishh! sound of a can opening, then a moment of quaffing, then a satisfied "unhh" of some beverage that tasted good, there was much speculation, Government was monitering us, their cryptanalysts thought we were on to something....the sound....besides the Blue Tip Match, many said a lighter (Zippo, of courshe). others said a can of beer - Budweiser by the fizzle... I said a can of Diet Pepsi Lime, because of the heady , yet understated, upon swirling it around in your mouth to obtain the character, the bouquet, and that lolligagging, it ultimately ws the definative character of Lime bubbling without sugar that produced, in my mind "It has the giggling sparkle of Swiss Maidens, blushed yet pleased by the attention of the rural swains" ...lol and it actually, I noticed, made into the Stonewall TJ157 vistory of "Cabaret' - by showing astutely a collage of the afore mentioned theories. he showed a Bic lighter, a match, A can of Bud open, and some beer poured into a short cocktail glass or double/triple shot glass in some bars, and the person making that long first drag off the cigarrette..... he played it perfect..and addressed all theories of the sound.....lol..... anyway......the sound of "thinking" in here was reminiscent of 'Lyrics quizzers' where we were honoured by your introduction of the stand-alone thread-worthy nature of the game idea, were encouraged to make it its stand-alone game - i think first by Jesse Joe (very astute call , Jesse) and..here it is again: CONGRATULATIONS ! very good idea, Ann...

I think Char's due for another raise, so I've got a challenge:

Name a song title on TWIF which is contained in the lyrics of two songs from IYCRMM (and name the two songs;)).

Char will be waiting for your response!;)

Would that be "walls" from The Way I Feel?

Correct songs 1) Your Love's Return (lyrics "Climbing your windows and walls)

and

2) Cobwebs and Dust (lyrics "tear down the walls, tear down the walls)

i can't remember if the rules to this edition are GL tunes only or not

if not, then I Used to Be a Country Singer (i did, lol)

"So I grabbed my axe and we sang a song in two part HARMONY"

Re: Song within a Song

or from prior submission, WALLS is the title track from DSMMN:

Your Love's Return ...."climbing your windows and WALLS"

those two are fine SWASs :) but my intention was that one song would be the title song from the album/CD (i.e. the album title). Does that make sense?

Thanks for your effort, sorry for the confusion! :(

p.s. As far as I'm concerned, it just needs to be one GL's recorded...

i think you're right...i guerss i was giving the 'lead' track

is it one that hasn't been provided already cos i know Shadows has already been given in two different occasions ... and i can't take credit

Re: Song within a Song

hi jj,

I don't think it's been given yet; I'm keeping a spreadsheet of entries and this song pair isn't there, unless I missed some LOL!

So U "used" 2 B a Country Singer? :headbang:
