Peewee Charles
Peewee was mentioned in a couple of other threads (and has even peeked in here, as evidenced by his signup). He has a new Myspace web site at:
www.myspace.com/peeweecharles He just posted the music videos made for the Shadows album - something that a few people here have seen before but many have not. Click on the "videos" link under his picture. |
Re: Peewee Charles
Thanks for the info, Val! :)

Re: Peewee Charles
Very nice Website at My Space, really enjoyed those 4 Lightfoot videos. I had seen 2 of them on Much Music in the 80's, "Shadows" & "In My Fashion." Thanks Valerie for that info...

Re: Peewee Charles
The actual video for "Shadows" ??? :) :) :) :) Cool!!
As soon as I can get to the library,I'm seeing that! I've seen all of Gord's "non-live" videos but that one. Right on! |
Re: Peewee Charles
Yes, all four of them and I presume that Peewee had a real "original" tape, not a 10th generation copy like most of us have seen. These look very nice indeed.
|
Re: Peewee Charles
Pee Wee please!!....put these on a DVD for the fans!! Pretty please? :) :)
We'll even pay more than $10 for them! Talk to Gordon and it can include Inspiration Lady and (from a Canadian show I don't know the name of) an unofficial video of "Gotta Get Away". Gordon and some guy in an Indiana Jones like hat are conoeing in Canada (and seemingly followed by a lovely lady in the woods). I'd definetly say that'd be worth the price. ;) Finally saw "Shadows" and I can honestly say it's the best of the four. In My Fashion 2nd place,Baby Step Back and then Blackberry Wine. |
Re: Peewee Charles
Hey Borderstone that Canadian Show was on Canada Day 1984, with his good friend Murray McLauchlan !
MURRAY MCLAUCHLAN SPECIAL "FLOATING OVER CANADA" - CBC - 1984 Lightfoot did a sort of video to Gotta Get Away for this show. He is seen canoeing and playing his guitar and lip syncing by the side of a lake. It was well done. |

Re: Peewee Charles
oh my, I'd put the tasty Inspiration Lady waaay out in front of In My Fashion, Shadows, Blackberry, Baby Step Back...and Big Brown
|
Re: Peewee Charles
Thanks for the info Jess! :) It is amazing how well Gord lip-synched to that song by the lake. In fact,in a way,he's more animated in that clip.
I love Shadows' videos but I wish they'd done a better concept for them, that he could really come alive in. Inspiration Lady,of course,is better than all of these but I was just commenting on the 4. |

Re: Peewee Charles
I just saw the "In my fashion" video. Is that a bandage or a cast on Gordy's leg? If its a
cast-When did Gordy ever break his leg? I don't remember ever seeing or hearing about it before. patybear |
Re: Peewee Charles
Thanks for the heads up on the Pee Wee Charles website. I'll have to join MySpace so I can keep these great videos he's posted ("Blackberry Wine" is a particular favorite)!

Re: Peewee Charles
I found the "Shadows" video to be most interesting. A woman appears, and then every time he sings "It's a wicked wind", she is replaced (fading in and out) by a musical instrument. I'm pondering too much.

Re: Peewee Charles
Who is that girl anyway??

I hadn't seen any of these. I love them. And guess what. He (GL) is coming to St. Louis. I may see him yet!!!!!!!!!!

Re: Peewee Charles
I was glad that Peewee had the videos on his site, but I was really dissapointed in the quality--just bad direction/concepts. Gord looks like he has a gun to his head in all of them. Baby Step Back was probably the best one--Terry cracked me up.

Re: Peewee Charles
Those 4 videos are now on You Tube. :)

Re: Peewee Charles
Okay, I have to say something. The video for "Baby Step Back" is a great piece of work. But, as far as videos go, the ones for "In My Fashion" and "Shadows" are fairly mediocre. The video for "Blackberry Wine" would get my vote for the whackest (if that's a word) video of ALL TIME! This one would have gotten Gord banned from MTV , had it been on MTV. It was a weird, Bacchanal sort of thing, with Rick dressed as a Puritan to keep everyone in check- but, what's the deal with the little guy? And the flashing light? Oh yeah, those split screen things were cheezy, even for the eighties. I listened to "Gordon Lightfoot Talks Shadows" years ago, and I remember him saying that they planned to make more videos. I'm glad the next one was "Inspiration Lady", because anything else like "Blackberry Wine" would have been another heap of embarrassment.
Of course, I could be looking at it from the wrong angle. Maybe we're meant to go and toke up before we watch it. In any case, it was very kind of Mr. Ringwald to post these. Whack! Whack I tell you! |
Re: Peewee Charles
i was wondering whether any videos (music videos, not live ones) were made for the Salute and EOM songs?. they came out during the video craze
|
Re: Peewee Charles
None that I remember seeing from "Salute" or "East Of Midnight." But you never know ?

Re: Peewee Charles
Valerie - thanks for the info - yes I've seen PeeWee's contributions show up all 4 back-to-back in You Tube by searching Gordon Lightfoot + PeeWee I think I did, and I've gotta say - "Baby Step Back" - the Western card playing one- the only story-line one of the 4 as I recall - blew me away, very cool. He DOES lip-sync well as others pointed out. I recall too the Boathouse video, and the Gotta Get Away stepping into the canoe vid as well - not to be find by my searches on You Tube. Anyone know ?
The famous 6 hour VHS tape compilation we all got in years past had them. I believe Shirley Hoggard helped me find mine - has anyone heard from her ? One of my original GL web friends all the way back from the Chat Room prior to corfid in the mid 90's. I understand she does not post anymore. I hope she's OK. And hello to you, too Valerie, good to be back. ~ geo steve |
Re: Peewee Charles
Spocksbrain - LOL my sentiments too on Blackberry Wine - I was numbstruck - I found most... interesting was the giant cowboy hat. It was like a Village people video done by a collaboration of Andy Warhol, Picasso, and the CFO who did not want to spend more than $250 on the sight gags ! Gord had to be dying inside on that one.... You have my vote on the good Western Baby Step Back as well - very cool and professional.

Shirley is doing good, I speak with her regularly too but she isn't on the computer a lot nowadays..

Re: Peewee Charles
Thanks Valerie & Char for the update on Shirley; She and I used to e-mail a lot in the mid to late 90's, I think as much as she would always listen and comment on Mamie and Merry... she might like like to hear from me. Would anyone feel comfortable asking her if she would, and reminding me of her e-mail if she OK's ?
Is she able to log in or was there a complication there too..? I'd love to say hello to my old friend, but I wish to cause her no discomfort. She helped get me through a lot of the eaarly thick of it after the mountaineering accident, and then the car accident head/neck/eyes biz. What a fine lady. I only regret the prospect of telling her about Merry, of whom she'd grown fond as well as Mamie. Thanks. Thoughts ? - geo Steve |
Re: Peewee Charles
Hi, everyone! - Pee Wee e-mailed me about a week ago but I've been sick so didn't read it until right now. He's been so busy that he hasn't had time to check in on corfid. He requested that I send everyone thabks for the good wishes. He said George Canyon, Nashville Star runner up a few years ago & great artist.wants Pee Wee to play with him so bad..Sounds like his steel guitar's coming out again - so happy for him; it couldn't happen to a kinder person.
As for the DVD...he said he can't even think about that now, plus they are Gord's property. He ended by saying: "ps I have not have a chance to reply or even check corfid?? Let them know I appreciate all the nice thoughts & will be in touch some day....." SherylKat |
Re: Peewee Charles
I'm sure Shirley would appreciate hearing from you..she has said that she feels so out of the loop nowadays..
I'll p.m. her -email to you. |
Re: Peewee Charles
George Canyon is a fine entertainer..lots of talent and tres cute..another great one from down east.- Pictou County, Nova Scotia I believe..
Pee Wee would be sittin' in with some wonderful music... |
Re: Peewee Charles
You know,I wonder....Gord (WB) released "Anything For Love" as a single in 1986...could there be a "shelved" video for that as well?? :)
I also know that there's another rare Canadian clip where Gord's doing an acoustic version of the EOM song "I'll Tag Along". Only saw it once but now I don;t recall where I saw it so long ago. He has no moustache, beard or long hair in the clip, looks like early 90s. |

also, someone mentioned a video of Boathouse... is that included, I never saw it :( more NB, I sure hope you & daughter are doing well, and that Shirley is also fine :) |
Re: Peewee Charles
Sorry jj, no video to be found of mine :( , and no list of what was on it. It blew me away when I got it....I watched all six hours on one Saturday, and my wife, who was also a GL fan, but not....6...hours-worth.... LOL all at once bailed after about an hour.
Someone Shirley knew mailed it to me, I don't know of its current availability. And, I think the Boathouse and Gotta Get Away videos were NOT on it if memory serves. It did have hilarious "Leadfoot" BBC "Country & Western" T.V. shows Gord hosted, sang, and danced, apparently on all the ladies feet, hense the moniker Leadfoot. As GL said in one concert referring to his lack of dancing expertise he said something like "When I should'a dosee-do'ed, I do'see didn't..." LOL. BUT....that was the show he originally debuted the choreographed and orchestrated early rendition of CRT, with men in the background swingin sledges and the like. He was fond of this enough to be inspired to re-record it for GG1 with orchestration, as he was nostalgic for the sound of it on the show. Other than that, it would seem for a large portion of his career, he quite vocally eschewed television, once saying on a Merv Griffin interview when asked about his distaste for television, he replied to the multi-millionairre TV MOGUL "Merv" flatly that he "hated television", which sorta let the air out of that interview by my take... These are my anecdotal understandings of the above events is all, oh and one more that stands out fun to have on it, from the '76 Soundstage period (which is on it, too) is the SNL comedy sketch starting with Gord performing a ballad, Spanish Moss I believe, and John Belushi came out in his Bee outfit and cut the strings on Gord's guitar to his mock indignation, not unlike the scene in Animal House, the movie, where Belushi is coming downstairs in Delta house, drunk and upset, and a black turtle-neck sweatered crooner folk guy was singing a *real bad* version of "I gave my love a Cherry..." and Belushi smashes the guys guitar on the railing.... hilarious. I am sure you could find someone out there who could burn a copy for you, I don't know what the proprietary particulars are on it, it was so long ago, it had an amazing amount of YEARS of video cips and appearances. I want it now again da**it ! Sorry I could not be of more help than this. Thank you for the kind thought for my daughter and I getting along with Merry gone JJ. ~geo steve |
Re: Peewee Charles - Update
Hi, Corfidians! I just got an e-mail from Pee Wee - Val's already told you about his web page on MySpace - if you haven't checked it out, it's got pics of him with his new "baby" - lap steel guitar, at home, on vacation, with some bands he's doing gigs with, etc. He said he was sorry he hadn't gotten back to me (Good Lord - I told him NEVER apologize about that!), but there was lots going on with the family and gigs. He wanted me to spread the word, that he was just taking off to CMT Studios to tape a show - "Get the word out, Pee Wee is back!" He is such a wonderful positive person. He said, he knows he's taking a gamble but he knows other doors will open. Gotta be positive; life is too short for negativity.
Anyway, a request: can somebody in Canada please watch out for this show. It will more than likely play down here in "Baja Canada" LOL SOMEDAY but if anybody in Canada happens to run across it, I'd sure appreciate it if they would "tape it" for me - I'd be happy to pay for any costs and time incurred! I'll try to find out when it will air... Great to see him getting the recognition he deserves! SherylKat:clap: |
