Besides where you are, what state or country would you like to live in?

Fairly easy question for myself. In the future I wouldn't mind living and retriring in Wyoming,my home state of Pennsylvania or Northern California. Some place with little to no large buildings or congestion. Mostly outdoors like.

Another country would be Canada,Italy,Sweden or Norway. :)

Where would you go to be happier,if anywhere?

Kentucky is my favourite state. We bought a piece of land there a while ago and I would like to get into farming one of these days. :)

For me it is not a matter of where it is what I might be able to afford. I will probably be a squatter on Kerstin's land in Kentucky. :)

Thanks Pam, I hope Kerstin gets the same laugh we did. I'm not sure where I would really want to live if I had a real choice. I have spent the last 25 years trying to figure it out. When I do I will let you (and Borderstone), know. :)

Re: Besides where you are, what state or country would you like to live in?

Well I was only passing through Connecticut back in 1986. I never intended on living here for any length of time. But it's like this huge vortex.

I like it ok I guess, but for tax purposes and cost of living I'd have to go with Nevada or a territory like the US Virgin Isles. Euskadi (N. Spain) where my son is right now is an amazing region. I REALLY fell in love with parts of Michigan when I was there last Fall. And I really felt a difference in the air quality (much better).

I'm not too crazy about the town I live in, but I'd be happier than a pig in chit if there were a grocery store, used book store and a place to buy clothes.

In North Ontar-I-o..........(sorry, but I'm staying close to home!)

A log cabin hidden amongst Northern Ontario’s backwoods of pine and fir overlooking Aubrey Falls with my canoe in stowed in the rafters awaiting spring break-up to the tune of ‘Song For A Winter’s Night’ by a crackling fire with my wife while thumbing my nose at the world.
Any questions?

I'll likely stay where I'm at, unless circumstances beyond my control force a move. I learned my lesson the hard way about 4 years ago. Thought I'd like living in NC, so I put my house in Michigan on the market and bought one in NC. Made the move, HATED it, and moved back into my Michigan house 3 months later. Luckily, the crappy real estate market up here had kept my house from selling! I was able to sell the NC house in 8 days! What an expensive 3 month vacation that was for me, and I'll probably never recover financially! LOL

I love where I live...Northern lower Michigan...6 miles to Lake Michigan, 5 miles from Sleeping Bear Nat'l Park and 30 miles to a commercial airport and shopping. I've been lots of places to visit friends or to vacation but don't think that I want to live in any of them.
There's no place like home.

Just wondering Kerstin if you ever heard the song "Kentucky Means Paradise" written by, Jimmy Dean, Merle Travis, sung by Glen Campbell. Great song.

You take a K and a E a N and a T a U and a CKY. That spells Kentucky, and it means Paradise.

Hi Jesse,
never heard that song before, but I agree. (Apart from the bit about eating the chicken, as I am vegetarian) :)

Re: Besides where you are, what state or country would you like to live in?

For what it's worth, with all it's imperfections & the like, I'd rather stay in the country & the state that I'm currently in. Though, I think it's mostly due to the fact that I feel more secure being where I can be near family. There are places that I'd like to visit, such as Canada & the UK, but, to quote Dorothy, "There's No Place Like Home" when it comes to where to live.

And while I'm thinking about it, the falls pictured are a true work of natures own art. They are what I call beautiful.

Don't worry Jesse Joe, I will be doing the cooking. I don't cook fried anything but I promise you some gourmet meals. What are some of your favorite meals?

Hi Jesse Joe,

all Lightheads are welcome to come and stay anytime! Luckyly Dame Rose is going to do the cooking as I'm the queen of the microwave dinners. Just don't eat any of my chickens! They'll probably all have names after two days of living over there. :)

Re: Besides where you are, what state or country would you like to live in?

{lol} Your quite funny Kerstin. Animal lover indeed as I am. I dont eat to much meat myself, and I admire you for being vegetarian. As far as my favourite food Dame Rose, I really dont think I have one. Your the cook, so you surprise us all.

After we finish eating, I suppose Kerstin will have chores for all of us. {lol} I want to feed the chicken, or drive the tractor. :)

Hi Jesse Joe,

I think you are the funny. You are very creative with a great sense of humor. I have seen Kerstin's property in Kentucky. It was already dark outside but I liked what I saw.

Kerstin,

It seems we will need to build a guest house for our friends to have a place to stay in when they visit. Jesse Joe might be our first guest. Maybe you had better warn your neighbors that we are coming. :) :)

Hi Jesse,

that's funny! Love the art work, too. I guess we'll have to get a pig just for you now. (lol)
And of course we'll ake everybody work for their food. That's one way of ensuring people don't stay tooooo long (lol).

Dore,
yes I guess some guest cabins will be necessary, or maybe the barn will do?

Dream Street Rose 01-09-2008 04:55 PM

Re: Besides where you are, what state or country would you like to live in?

Dear Kentucky Kerstin,

Guest cabins sound like the way to go. Who is going to pay for all this? Who will buy all the food I am going to cook? I will be almost broke that is why I have to move to Kentucky. Don't forget, Kathy will be there too. One more thing, what will we name Jesse Joe's pig? ;)

HI Dore,

food we'll grow (vegetables and fruits!) and as for the cabins, maybe the first visitors will have to build their own cabins? How about it Jesse? :)

lol ! You guys are funny. Name the pig "REMO" that's my name spelled backwards. Lets not forget our friend from Phoenix, Borderstone will have what job on your farm ? I vote for him taking care of REMO... All for fun 'B' :)

BILLW 01-09-2008 07:59 PM

Re: Besides where you are, what state or country would you like to live in?

OK I'll bite. I agree with Jesse Joe. I'd like to retire to Hawaii - we almost bought a condo there and that's how we ended up in Maryland ? Long story - ask me when you see me at a concert in 2008. But it's paradise and they speak a lot of English and they drive on the proper side of the road. So it's a total package. Fairly high cost of living though.

I'd also agree with my other friend Borderstone - I wouldn't mind having a place in Norway. Never been there and I would never give up my US citizenship but a little cottage with a good sound system would be sweet. I have two or three drops of Norwegian blood...

Barring those we'd like to retire to Ocean City , Maryland which is about a half hour from here. We spend a lot of time there every summer and it's also lovely - not quite Hawaii and the sun comes up out of the ocean instead of setting into it but it's got it's own charm.

Interesting question...

Bill :)

Where in Kentucky ? We have fairly close relatives in Ft. Thomas, which is running distance from Cincinnati, that we visit from time to time. (or swimmimg distance)

And we used to keep a few goats so we can help out there. (mainly had them to keep the horse company but then they grow on you)

Bill :)

Hi BillW,

the place in KY is close to Rosine, "the Birthplace of BlueGrass music", which is about 20 minutes fromOwensboro and in the middle of nowhere, so to speak.
You had goat? That's great I always wanted some. Do you still have the horse? My horses and the donkey will be moving to KY also.....

Jesse,
isn't Remo a brand name for drum heads, too. At least they make banjo heads, I think. Now you're making "B" take care of the pig? I got it just for you ;)

Re: Besides where you are, what state or country would you like to live in?

Never fear Jesse Joe my dear. I would not think of going to Kentucky without Borderstone. He is a very remarkable person. Should Borderstone and Mariah hook up I am sure he will come and visit us. If B is not with Mariah or someother lucky woman he might plant my garden for me because Ken (my husband), will be too old. :)

By the way, I love the name Remo.

DSR, I hope Borderstone brings Mariah Carey to the Kentucky farm. Because she's easy on the eye. I can just picture her in a straw hat milking the cows. lol ! There's got to be a cow right ?

Yes Kerstin "Remo" is a brand name that I have seen on Drum Set.
