I swear I'm going to paint them Silver Heels red!!! Looking forward to Wednesday and crushing the Rockies at Fenway (just for starters).

I think the rockies are going to win, but even if they don't it was a magnificent feat they pulled off to get to the series, such a young club. Yep the fields are going to be RED Pam - Blood Red, with the purple standing high!! YEAH ROCKIES!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

well, seemed the world was pulling for the Sox when they were removing the jinx against the Yanks but other than folks who live in Beantown, how can anyone not be stunned by the Rockies historic streak and be pulling for them all the way?

but we dig the city + folks of boston and most of all their park :)

hope it's alot of fun for both cities but keep the game MOVING!!!

The Rockies have some talented players but the Sox are a much, much better team all around. They can outplay the Rockies at all levels. Tonights game was no fluke, that's for certain. Best bullpen I've seen from most any team in a loooong time.

Hate to say, but if the Rockies pull a single win in this series, that would be a feat. Of course, just to be on the safe side, I'll be sleeping in my #24 Red Sox jersey to bed. It's day 4 wearing it during the day. I shared this fact today with the great ladies at the hospital auxillary thrift store and they applauded my dedication :biggrin:.

False sense of security for the Sox fans. As I said, win or lose Rockies are a great team and I am proud that they made it this far. I do believe that the Sox will have to work for a win.

NAH, not a false sense of security at all. The Sox play bettah as a team than the Rockies do. Sure the Rockies have some talent, but they're lacking the overall teamwork, experience (and the bullpen) among other things. I'm sure or I hope their performance in subsequent WS games here will be an improvement over last night's.

I can't argue that the Rockies are the best in their league...they've proven that, but this is the WS now.

Had a birthday yesterday. (Don't ask.) Time rolls on and a man counts memories more than years. So let me tell you about the best birthday present I ever had.

It was delivered 15 years ago in the wee hours at Women's College Hospital, a little redhead (the Vikings passing through Ireland long centuries ago, I figure) announcing himself to the world with a set of lungs worthy of an umpire roaring a called third strike.

As luck had it, she who bore him was an old hand at such matters by then, he being heir No. 3, and we were all home in time to watch the Blue Jays, one birthday boy in another's arms, win their first World Series that night down in Atlanta.

So this date never passes but I think a bit about generations and baseball and, the World Series starting last night in Boston, get a little wistful for temps perdu.

For as it happens, some of us growing long(ish) in the tooth around town actually carry dual citizenship when it comes to the grand old game – associate members, as it were, in Red Sox Nation.

Gather round, kids, and I'll explain. Wait, while we get the pipe fired up and the rocking chair going. There, now off we go down memory lane.

It was a thing of beauty, so it was, that ballpark built in 1926 at the foot of Bathurst St. on the lakeshore. Cost the harbour commission a cool $750,000. Held almost 20,000 fans, the equal of many major-league parks.

It was home to the Toronto Maple Leafs, a baseball team before they were a hockey side, colours worn by legends like Rocky Nelson, the club owned for a spell by the brassy Jack Kent Cooke, skippered by Sparky Anderson.

Long before the Montreal Expos brought major-league baseball to Canada, long before the Jays hit town, it was as good as it got around here for ball fans down at that damp, dank (a lot like Fenway Park, as it happens) diamond by the lake.

By 1965, the Maple Leafs had become the farm team of the Red Sox – the Leafs as successful an operation on the field as the parent club (losing 100 games that season) wasn't.

Under Dick Williams, famous as a dugout despot, the Leafs won the league championship and the Governor's Cup in 1965 and '66. Fireplug third-baseman Joe Foy was rookie of the year, MVP and batting champ in '65. Reggie Smith, an outfield whippet, took the batting title in '66, the same season big right-hander Gary Waslewski was pitcher of the year.

For the 1967 season, the Red Sox called up Foy and Smith and Waslewski and second-baseman Mike Andrews. Williams was hired as manager.

And one of the great Cinderella seasons ever was had, the 100-to-1 underdog Red Sox going from last to first in the American League, all the way to the World Series, losing in seven to St. Louis.

As the Boston writer Dan Shaughnessy rather arrestingly put it, "the skinny little girl next door became a Playboy centrefold overnight."

Teenagers of the day appreciated the imagery. And the way we figured, the Red Sox might as well have been wearing a Maple Leaf on their uniforms for all the help the Toronto pipeline had delivered to the turnaround.

Back home, alas, the Leafs folded the next season. They tore down Maple Leaf Stadium a year later.

But in Toronto, for ball fans of a certain age, the link to Fenway was forged for a lifetime.

So, from those of us who remember the Stadium and the summer of '66, Go Sox.

Here's a BIG history lesson and a very important one:

Just like the Red Sox ballclub themselves, the fans of the Red Sox Nation are multi-national/ethnic/cultural. There is no place in baseball for any form of ethnocentrism and it is simply unacceptable. You won't find that at Fenway Park - not among the players, not among the fans.

Hey, the NY Giants are playing in London tonight. Giant v Dolphins. Wembley is SOLDOUT and there is a giant size robot in Trafalgar Square. Watch for me - I'll wave at the cameras - I'll be in my Yankees shirt ;)

So sad for the Rockies. Game one sucked, Game two was total anxiety, Game three looked like it was a possibility, glad I don't have game 5 tickets. I am proud that they made it so far, so fast........who knows what tonight will bring.

Yeh, it is so sad :clap:!!

For a few seconds there last night, I was concerned but quickly came back to reality, knowing that despite the Rockies getting into the game, the Sox were still ahead! My faith never faultered.

The Sox have been phenomenal!!! Lots of history in the making here!!! Enjoy tonights game!

And don't forget to go to Taco Bell on Tuesday (between 2-4) for your free taco!

It is history in the making for sure. The Colorado Rockies - 17 years old against the Red Sox - 104 years old. Your Curse of the Bambino years lasted longer than the Rockies have even been a team (almost 5 times longer).
Yep the Rockies are great, after 104 years I guess it would be expected that the Red Sox might win another series.
