Anybody who has been following my attempts to make it easy for punters here wishing to display pictures that are not already on a web site somewhere and therefore require somewhere to upload their pictures to but who do not yet have their own web site to upload to and then link to should take note of this topic please
I happen to have taken out a subscription to a useful UK magazine called http://www.qssa.co.uk/ipc/subs/XWU_images/logo1.gifwhich is issued every fortnight (for Americans "fortnight"=fourteen nights=two weeks just as "senight=seven nights=1 week). In the latest issue that I received yesterday was a recommendation to use http://www.imageshack.us/ for free hosting of digital pictures:- it entails registering and waiting for an emailed activation link to arrive. but their blurb says:- ImageShack® uses a highly reliable dedicated Linux server network to provide its digital content hosting service! Please see the Common Questions for details. Make sure to read the Terms of Service. image types allowed: jpeg jpg png gif bmp tif tiff swf maximum image size: 1024 kilobytes the magazine contributor who made the recommendation said "You can upload an unlimited number of files up to 1 MB each.If the files are large enough a thumnbnail is automatically created ------------------------- It features an easy to use browse facility. So select the picture to upload then click a "host it' button to upload then wait then go to "my images" I uploaded this pic of the Lightfoot Tribute Band band http://img191.echo.cx/img191/4686/theband640x4802rs.jpg Oops I had to replace the my originally uploaded picture which was way too big an image. I must research and write the very necessary tutorial on suitable picture sizing for corfid display purposes and how to resize before uploading!! You can also if you have a mind to upload "zipped" images. But I have as yet no clue how that works or why one might want to use it. anyway I made a screenshot of the display showing my uploaded picture and a selection of links including the UBB code to display here and found in my images this display:- imageshack typical screenshot:- Note that it provided both a "hotlink" which links to their site by clicking the picture:- http://img191.echo.cx/img191/5724/imageshack1bz.jpg from which I extracted the UBB code for the picture only:- http://img191.echo.cx/img191/5724/imageshack1bz.jpg John Fowles Ain't life on the internet grand?? This is cool John, thanks for the information. I am going to try to display a thumbnail pic of the latest addition to our family...let's see if it works.

I thought Arnold was a pig. :) Actually, his name is "Rohn", after a village in Alaska. (And what, are you saying he's NOT cute????)

As for "Arnold" I was actually thinking of two dogged Arnolds 1. the gubernator of Californicating and 2. apropos my recent posting to the Al Stewart topic (that Al started in a band in Bournemouth led by aspiring star and later UK DJ Tony Blackburn who as per:- http://www.radiorewind.co.uk/tony_blackburn_page.htm "He was helped by Arnold the dog, who he found on a BBC sound effects tape" there are links on that page to various mp3s that posibly feature Arnold such as:- "Tony sees a lazy dog (1970)" at:- http://www.radiorewind.co.uk/sounds/...burn_fleas.mp3 but my sound card is down so I cannot check it out now John Fowles I confess Ive been outfumbled And the sound of the beans boiling through the evergreens Sure do please a hungry man from:- http://gordon-lightfoot-lyrics.wonde...rderstone.html |
LOL, thanks for clearing that up, John. I must say that Arnold has an impressive bark. Rohn's doggie ego is, therefore, still intact.

OK Sharron I should have said that I am not much of a doggy/puppy person but like Ron Chidgey in Melbourne who you met in last friday's chat room I am more of a catman. Hence it is hard for me to say a dog is cute but your puppy Rohn certainly is. Now kittens are a different matter as this fine study of my last UK pet, that I have displayed on corfid before avers:- http://img169.echo.cx/img169/6831/aliceindrainer5tt.jpg a laid back Alice at about 3 months John Fowles There's a breeze from the shore And the waves overlap When I've called in the cat She'll go walkin' from:- http://gordon-lightfoot-lyrics.wonderlyrics.com/It's-Worth-Believin'.html |
Okay, okay...I have edited my post to correct my typing error. Alice is most definitely cute. We have some friends of the feline variety here as well:
http://img61.echo.cx/img61/848/chinabeauty9it.th.jpg China & Beauty, 2 large cats in an average chair. http://img61.echo.cx/img61/5320/biggershelf0kk.th.jpg Rosie, who simply needs a bigger shelf. Sharron "When it's midnight in the meadow And the cats are in the shed..." |
very Interesting Sharron. Now I see that you were able to copy from your upload two different addresses the second one is the
clickable thumbnail that opens the full sized original. This helps counter any criticism here on corfid by those like me who have slowband connexions and tend to be miffed at having to wait for large files to open My "resizing" tutorial will in due course explain how you could alternatively use a free graphics program I discovered called photo gagdet that very easily allows you to do just that from the right click menu your full sized picture is at:- http://img61.echo.cx/my.php?image=chinabeauty9it.jpg the thumbnail is at:- http://img61.echo.cx/img61/848/chinabeauty9it.th.jpg note the addition of "th" after the filename John Fowles |
Yes, John, I am just full of surprises. LOL. Thanks for the picture posting practice.
Now, where's that resizing tutorial you keep promising us? Sharron |

Hi John and Sharron.
Correct I do like cats, but Rohn looks very much like my dog who is now 15. Sharron, do you know what Rohn's family lines are, he has some hound ( check ears ), and some healer ( spotty legs ). and Labrador maybe ?? Have a great weekend Ron. |
Ron,
Let's see, at chat you were 0 for 3....here we go again...Rohn is actually Alaskan Husky with about an eigth German Shorthair Pointer. His parents are sleddogs. Have had a lot of people ask if he is at least part heeler, though. Steve, love the caption for Marshall, although looking at him I do not think I could accuse him of anything, and if I did, judging from those eyes I do not think I could make it stick. Sharron |
At the risk of being seen to be the Darth Vader of Corfid and turning on posting Jedi and our master "Obi Wan" Fowles (who taught me to import images) I profer the following evidence that proves that it is in fact the majority of Corfiders who are Down Under..

Ain't the world grand. I have posted this just after talking on the steam type telephone to a very dear friend in England who I hope will shortly be reading this so I will now say "Hello Thea" (she is from Sydney and now Sherborne, England!!) Steve you will know what I mean when I tell you that her great great...... grandfather was a "First Fleeter" back in 1788. Hey that reminds me Steve I am appalled at your attempts to turn the world upside down and will have words to say to you should you dare to reappear in tomorrow evening/Saturday morning's chat room session Here is a picture of Thea's convict ancestor from the site for the Everingham family started in Oz by Matthew James Everingham http://www.everingham.com/family/images/matthew2.jpg John Fowles "If there was a Mount Rushmore in Canada, we wouldn't have any politicians on it, that's for sure. I have been listening to keith Urban for a while now, and I believe him to be an amazing talent. His ability on the guitar took me by surprise, and the raw emotion he can pack into his voice and his performance is something I have not heard from too many artists. If anyone gets a chance to view his performance of "You'll Think of Me" from Live 8 in Philly, (Link is on this page: http://music.aol.com/artist/main.adp?artistid=271584# ) you will see and hear what I mean. I saw this guy in concert this April at a smaller venue in Winnipeg...he poured himself into that show and did not miss a beat or a note. Now, as for your tutorial on picture resizing...I shall have to take a minute, drink a cup of coffee, and come back to that when my mind is a little more focused!! Mouse An Aside to Sydney Steve: Sorry, I know Keith loses his Aussie accent when he starts singing, and I know it drives you mad. But he is a truly gifted musician. the "my images" link on the top menu has disappeared and in googling for comments I discovered that therey had a down problem yesterday and that images not accessed for a year are deleted. While you all wait (with baited breath-is there any other type I wonder?) for my promised tutorial there is some limited guidance on using imageshack available at:- http://forums2.gardenweb.com/forums/...123311101.html I also found an Aussie Ipod discussion forum at:- http://forums.appletalk.com.au/index.php?showtopic=7773 There are other free image hosting sites such as photobucket but I found this page:- "Do not use Photo Bucket Or Image Shack" at: http://forums.gfxvoid.com/t-8869_0.htm I tried to find out how to reaccess the pictures that I had previously uploaded but got nowhere until I reregistered using the same email addy as before wherupon after receiving the email with the required activation link I was taken to:- http://reg.imageshack.us/v_images.php which had all my images present http://img1.imageshack.us/img1/4900/...yimages1pj.jpg Now if I go to:- http://reg.imageshack.us The "my images" link is there again very interesting but stoopid as a certain German soldier used to say in Burbank John Fowles Still I get that restless feelin when I hear a whistle blast See an image from the past Of an old schooner flyin down a sky thats overcast from:- http://gordon-lightfoot-lyrics.wonde.../Restless.html |
Thats true "mouse", you can't beat that Aussie Accent.
When we had "voice" on our Friday Night Chat session, it was certainly entertaining... lol. Have a great weekend ( keep Smiling ) Ron. |
We have voice capability in John's chat room??
|
Voice capability - woo hoo!!
I knew that course of 124 testosterone tablets, along with the free "You Too Can Sound Like Sean Connery" tape would come in handy. You bloody beauty! My "on line voice" is way cool (and very deep) giving, as they guaranteed, a "completely misleading impression to naive onliners regardless of how weedy your puny body really is!" The downside is that hair seems to grow madly everywhere ! I have found though, it can also be dealt with using an easy to use product pictured below ... http://img351.imageshack.us/img351/6...salhair1ro.jpg DO A "STEVE" AND PLUCK YOUR WAY TO PHYSICAL PERFECTION!!!! |
Love Keith Urban and have loved Aussie accents since I was 16 and worked with a fellow from Australia! Had a huge crush on him!
lol Keith's new song (written by Rodney Crowell) is fabulous! No accent when he sings but it's there when he does interviews! love it! |

And yes Steve "You Too Can Sound Like Sean Connery"Shurely Shome miShtake the Bondsman is yet another mangler I am afraid the voice chat room is long gone. What Ron so fondly recalls was a Yahoo group that Valerie Magee started at:- http://launch.groups.yahoo.com/group...tfootchatroom/ if you go there it now says:- "This club is no longer in use for chat or messages" We abandoned it after innumerable intractible problems of access etc but it was fun while it lasted It did spawn a one time (back in 2002) the very active Guitar chat Yahoo group which in turn led to 2002's short-lived incarnation of the GL Tribute Band http://mageenet.org/LightfootTribute...C00130-400.jpg which had its own Yahoo group at:- http://launch.groups.yahoo.com/group...htfootTribute/ and the web site at:- http://mageenet.org/LightfootTributeBand/ which was only made possible by the members taking it in turns to play a piece for the others. That was one of the problems with the Yahoo system if I recall correctly only one speaker at a time. But there are other means of using voice in chat rooms including http://www.paltalk.com/PalTalkSite/img/logo.gif which I see now includes video- good for demonstrating guitar fingering (and seeing how beautiful the female chatters are!!) review at http://reviews-zdnet.com.com/4520-6033_16-4207006.html) and the Instant Messenger stystems of AOL and MSN but the current Friday Chat room using either a browser applet or mIRC does not have this feature. Anybody wishing to restart a guitar playing chat should in the first instance contact Ed Mullen at ed@edmullen.net I expect he would be delighted to join in as the earlier Paltalk arrangement died out due lack of interest John Fowles P.S.Of course if Steve and any other folk who walk on their heads wish to set up and publicise an alternative voice capable chat room at a more suitable time for them (or indeedy use the existing arrangement of the applet stored on my site etc;it is always there for anybody to use not just the Friday evening session I run) be my guest. I can see it in your eyes and feel it in the way you kiss my lips. I can hear it in your voice whenever we are talking like this. I can see what you believe in, When his name is mentioned, and I die. I can watch the way you walk, The way you talk, The way you close your eyes. from:- http://www.coquet-shack.com/lyrics/L...small_0042.php |
