Since I know that a lot of folks rarely visit the 'Small Talk' forum I'm taking the liberty of moving The Watchman's excellent post over here. It would be very cool if all corfid members put themselves on the map. Here it is:

I saw this on another site and thought it would be cool to see on a virtual map where all Lightfoot's fans are located. I set up an account there for us and it's very easy to add yourself. No personal information is needed and you can also post a picture. The default setting is for North America but you can zoom in and out wherever you want.

How fun! Great idea!

BILLW 12-09-2005 10:46 AM

The directory notes that our #1278 member signed up yesterday. The new map has 28 members listed. So we've only got 1,250 to go. Not bad for only a few days.

Bill :)

Molly 12-09-2005 12:57 PM

BillW it was a boring day, so I did some searching. There are 64 pages of registered members, 18 of those have listings of people that registered but never left a post, 16 pages of people that left 1 post, out of the last 30 pages 21 pages of registered users had less than 20 posts. Wonder how many still read this site and just never post.

New 12 String Mike 12-09-2005 02:56 PM

I'm there! No photo yet.

GJA 12-09-2005 09:43 PM

I added myself...not sure if I did it right!

Sydney Steve 12-10-2005 05:18 PM

As a gracious present to the women of the world I have added myself. Steady ladies, steady...If you must swoon then please take a number and do it in an orderly fashion.

Borderstone 12-10-2005 07:14 PM

I'm on and in! :) That wasn't so bad now! Can i have a lolly? :D

Minstrel Man 12-11-2005 12:23 AM

Very cool BillW. I've now put myself onto the map. It's a neat thing we've created.

BILLW 12-12-2005 06:25 AM

Great work ! We've got 42 on the map so far. How about we shoot for 100 by year end ?

Bill :)

BILLW 12-19-2005 10:29 AM

Hello again,

Just putting this back up top so we can get over 100 members on the map by December 31, 2005 and win the big prize.

Bill :)

Jim Nasium 12-19-2005 01:31 PM

That is actually Mr Nasium quite simple. Just click on the link to "Contact admin" which I have just done having on my first attempt contrived to make a stoopid typo in my own name
and leave a suitable message and with luck the requisite Admin guy , which I assume to be the erstwhile watchman Al will sort you out.
In passing I noted the pretty canine picature displayed by "someone". Is that Mary an indication that you are a bitch??
I thought there was a very nice shot of you there before. feeling shy??
Not so the Sydney hooligan who chose to display himself I presume squatting on his outside "dunny"
I am most impressed with the mapping facility which looks like the handiwork of Google earth no it might be digitalglobe/earth atlas.
Whatever even with my slow dial up with patience and after I got used to the zoom and direction controls I was able to capture the following small screenshots
http://www.johnfowles.org.uk/sherborne/map1.jpg

the general Bristol/Yeovil/Southampton area I know so well having been my own company's salesman for nigh on 30 years.
now to zoom in:-

http://www.johnfowles.org.uk/sherborne/map2.jpg

Nearly there

http://www.johnfowles.org.uk/sherborne/map3.jpg

Bingo!

Now lets try the "satellite" view:-

http://www.johnfowles.org.uk/sherborne/satellite1.jpg

Nar too much cloud (this is England remember)
Oh well it'll have to be the "hybrid" view:-

OK. I'm number 83. But just look at that chick in the corner banging her glass on the table and wolf whistling at your legs...

Jim Nasium 12-20-2005 04:58 AM

Thanks very much JF I have done as you suggested. If the requisite Admin guy ,the erstwhile watchman Al, reads this post, I apologise for my perfunctory message, in attempting to paragraph my request, the message was sent.

violet Blue 12-21-2005 01:05 AM

Thanks. I got a deal for you. It's a three for one. I'll take your Mother-in-Law in trade for my three siblings? All three live on the west coast and they're too cheap to buy a plane ticket to come and visit you, and the only time they'll ever call you is if someone in the family they don't like dies. Whadda ya say?

Oh, hmmm, gee, did that maybe sound a little bitter? Can't imagine why that would be :)

*appropriate* to phone my husband's employers and discuss him as though he was a 7 year old. So we are officially "In Hiding" for the rest of our lives because she just doesn't "get it".

I mean, this is a 58 year old engineer she's embarrassing half to death in his workplace.

So.... I'll try to add two locations & see how it goes.

BTW - love the pic, Violet! What a great view!

johnfowles 12-22-2005 01:49 PM

Well Not Allright
I have heard frem Bru that when she tried to show another picture of herself (her existing one is a very nice study of her droolling over a "Lightfoot Trail" signboard in some obscure Ontario town they call Orillia) she is told that London and Surrey sre both invalid names!! I tried Croydon and Shirley and got the same stoopid result.
I checked the site's FAQs and found a provision to request adding more places to their obviously woefully inadeqate database
I also note that forum founder Florian has yet to reveal himself but in today's UK Travel Telegraph email is a short article extolling the unique blend of the historic and the modern of his home city at:-

Sydney Steve 12-23-2005 01:44 AM

Oh dear.
Mr Fowles yet again puts 2 & 2 together and comes up with 5.
Its not the names of the towns John ! Its the identity of the requester. Use a pseudonym. Try Sydney Steve ! This name engenders serious credibility & respect (and is nearly as acceptable as American Express around the world...)
John has overlooked the fact that most of the modern software will not recognise questions from anyone with an internet history of being of a certain sort (if you Corfiders catch my drift)[lol]...

This doesn't explain Bru's problems though..Must have been a glitch in her case...

Mr Fowles, as we know is one of the few objects of his own vintage NOT to be displayed in a museum. BUT nobody would suggest he is not also tricky.
Corfid folk will be well aware that in the photo he has used digital trickery to discredit me .

I don't know how to get that darn website to work. I tried to add myself on there, but it's too complicated. I'll figure it out one day.

That picture was too big, just like our stomachs. :D (Just joking)

Very good advice Al.James if you try to display a picture (jpg) that is over about 800 pixels wide (check its properties Ron's great picture is 2076 pixels wide and almost 400,000 bytes)) it exceeds the standard width of this forum and makes it then necessary to scroll all postings to read all the clever stuff the punters have previously posted before you came long . To resize save it from where you found it then use any graphics program(me) that you might have or get the excellent freebie
<a href="http://www.xemico.com/photogadget/" target="_blank">
Photogadget</a>. the file (pgpro.exe) is only 1005KB and should take only a very few minutes to download on a dial-up.
Once you have a smaller file (which also then has the benefit of being quicker to load for dial-up readers) you have to find somewhere else on the internet to store it. It so happens that I have recently found a superb free website outfit that allows hotlinking and I am working on a fairly simple tutorial on how to use it. Oh do shut your face Stevo. You are always quick to criticise my efforts but I have yet to see you attempt anything other than being rude here!!

Hi All. The pic seems to have caused a little excitment. It was taken back of Massey Hall Sat 26 May before the concert. Gord was explaning and showing how a guy run off the sreet and into his dressing room in Rochester with a camera. Gord said he grabbed him as in pic, clicked then run out, and he hasent seen him since. Anyone know who it was?
Anyway my thanks goes to the stranger who took pic. his name is Mac from Massachusetts. I hadent relised at the time he had taken such a great pic.He was such a nice guy, because during the time of taking the pic and before the concert he went and got it developed and came looking for and found me in the Massey bar.
Should have let you guys see it sooner,

charlene 02-18-2006 04:54 PM

Maybe the post could be deleted with the large pic and after re-sizing it could be posted again?

I posted a few pics from Sarasota on the frappr page.

Amazing Ron
I met Mac in Boston last October having previously metDoctor Jack in Portland Maine
This picture is on the doctor's page and shows a group of fans at Massey in May 2005

Mac is in the middle with a moustache
and here is an even better picture from Mac's own Rose Garden MA site
http://www.rosegardenfolk.com/photos.html
http://www.rosegardenfolk.com/photos/gord.jpg
OK, so Gordon Lightfoot didn't perform at the Rose Garden.
But it didn't stop our volunteers Mac and Kevin from bringing
the Rose Garden to Gordon after a show in New London.

Now Ron hows about you reading my Newsgroup message addressed to another fan in your town (Kevin Andreoli)
at:-
http://groups.google.com/group/alt.m...9f9f0c0bac5d6a
and making some sort of response about the great potential GL singalong in Gosport

Borderstone 02-18-2006 05:25 PM

Hey Bill! :) How come you didn't use my photo from the,"Borderstone At Last,Breaks Cover" thread? You could do a simple search and get the photo that way. ;)

I'm honored to be included here by the way, just so no one get the idea I'm whining. :D

The Gypsy 02-18-2006 05:41 PM

Yes John. Thats sure is Mac, Dr Jack and Kevin I think, plus partners. I took that pic at Massey with Macs camara. I have heard of Kevin Andreoli, and I will at some point get down to Gosport. Will have to get some singing lessons in first. Cant sing cant play, but hey just enjoy music.

SilverHeels 02-19-2006 10:20 AM

Ron, did you come to the Delta and join in the room parties?

The Gypsy 02-19-2006 06:48 PM

Bru. No Im afaid we never made it to the Delta. We had booked into the Grand on a short package deal, thats my wife and I. Only had four days and had a lot of sights to see, I know you had a great time after reading the posts here. Never made it back last year, but hope to go in November as in 99. I know it might sound stange or maybe not, but autum/winter in Toronto was magic.Lots of Christmas shoping etc. Ron

charlene 02-19-2006 09:04 PM

ohmigosh - "Winter in Toronto was magic"...said like a true tourist!
lol
just kidding - the city can be very pretty but those streets get brown and gritty and it's ugleeeeeee!
true about the great shopping tho!
tonight it's minus 18 celcius with the wind chill, warming up to ZERO on Wednesday...
see ya in November!

The Gypsy 02-20-2006 02:44 AM
