Jim Driskell 09-07-2005 09:37 PM

Here are the results so far:

Showdown #1
Old Dan's Records 16 Uncle Toad Said 2

Showdown #2
If You Could Read My Mind 13 Harmony 1

Showdown #3
Drifters 12 Stay Loose 6

Showdown #4
Hangdog Hotel Room 10 Betty Called Me In 5

Showdown #5
Slide on Over 10 Blackberry Wine 5

Showdown #6
Sea of Tranquility 8 Triangle 6

Wow, I'm surprised. I thought that Triangle would win. I've always enjoyed Sea of Tranquility too. I just had the feeling from reading on this BB that Triangle was a real crowd favourite. This is the first showdown where I was suprised by the outcome. I think the next one might be hard to predict too. These two songs are connected because they both describe interesting gentlemen who wander the countryside. Which song do you enjoy the most:

Don Quioxte

or

Minstrel of the Dawn

Have fun.

DQ .... but I agree, this is the hardest "two horse" race in the Showdowns thus far ...

mnmouse 09-07-2005 11:38 PM

This is extremely tough....I will say, for today, Don Quixote.

DQ.

silenceandsound86 09-08-2005 12:35 AM

I've got to go with Don Quixote.

Rona 09-08-2005 12:35 AM

I've got to go with Don Quixote.

BILLW 09-08-2005 05:28 AM

Love 'em both but I've gotta go with:

DON QUIXOTE !

Bill :)

Regarding your surprise I think you'd get different results if all 1200+ Members could be polled. We repeat offenders tend to be somewhat 'opinionated', LOL.

Minstrel of the Dawn.

Sorry, just can't do this one. They are equal in my mind. Like choosing a child. I simply can't place one over the other.

Erika 09-08-2005 07:28 AM

Minstrel of the Dawn, without question.

Travis 09-08-2005 07:28 AM

Minstrel of the Dawn, without question.

Don Quixote 09-08-2005 10:49 AM

Two great, great songs. I suppose you can guess where my vote goes.

Close call, but "Minstrel of the Dawn" just! I love the acoustic section midway through as the song kicks into life.

DJ in MJ 09-08-2005 12:43 PM

DQ.

Bu if this one is any more than a few votes either way, I'd still say it's the closest two songs yet. If that makes any sense... :D

Minstrel of the Dawn, just love it...
Kimberly

New 12 String Mike 09-08-2005 04:26 PM

Minstrel for me.

While I was performing, I used to start with his one.

Not original, I know, but I liked the song.

WortUore 09-08-2005 06:09 PM

This is a tough one, pitting two of GL's very best songs against one another. They both show how truly beautiful a guitar can sound. Since you're twisting my arm for a choice between the two, I pick...Minstrel of the Dawn.

Sydney Steve 09-09-2005 08:39 AM

This so called "choice" of yours stinks M.M.
I suspect I am not alone saying I lose whichever way I choose to go.
As a cop out I go with the view of the Man himself who leans towards playing DQ. in the set lists I have seen...
But is the artist , who has spilt if not actual then emotional blood and toil ,and has serious bias for that reason the best judge ?
Or is it way less cerebral than my musings and does he just like playing DQ 'cos he likes it???
- way 2 HARD
DQ for me ,but Minstrel Man please make them easier than this one ...(or my doctors account is on the way!)

minstrel

kaydee 09-09-2005 07:44 PM

Ouch, ouch, ouch. The imagery and melodies are so rich in both of these classics! I've got to go with Minstel, though.

horrid. I almost passed on this one.
Don Quixote

Borderstone 09-09-2005 09:37 PM

Okay,I really like them both so like I did on another one...I'll use my 1 point off system.

Winning by a point is,"Don Quixote". :)

Borderstone 09-12-2005 03:20 PM

To Sydney Steve: Make them easier? If it were too easy it would not be as interesting or as fun! :) I suggested an "easy" comparison to M.M. and he said quite simply that the choice would be too obvious.

The challenge of choosing one over the other is a great way of looking inside one's own personality and also is quite simply, great exercise for one's mind.

Keep up the challenge M.M.! :D Don't change a thing!

Minstrel Man 09-12-2005 08:42 PM

Very eloquent Borderstone. And I agree completely with your thoughts. I find it interesting to reflect on the songs and try to choose a favourite. And when it's close, it's fun to see what others on the board think.
