In the song, Restless, there's a line, "We will be returning to the things that we love best."
What do you love best?

Things....
Enroute; walking, running, (flying blind, ;) )or do you just find yourself returning to things?

Now, just remember, that line got changed to "The things we DO best". That might be quite different....ie. work and play are two different things.
Perhaps what you pose is just a rhetorical question!

So, he changed that line; I didn't know that. So, I meant LOVE best. Posing rhetorical questions isn't exactly what I love best. I was a bit interested in hearing a story or two.

When at was at a concert and he sang that, (I thought he said, love), I thought to myself, hey here I am at a Gordon Lightfoot concert and I felt like I was back to the good music.

He might well have sung "love" ; it's not really important, but check the lyrics on the dvd and you'll find "do".
How about....wandering over a hillside exploring and enjoying.....prior to it (I'm ashamed to say being logged.
That was this afternoon. Makes you want to hear "love and maple syrup"!

I was thinking about "love and maple syrup" this afternoon. That real maple syrup is my favorite. If I don't have that, I'd rather have strawberry jam.

Think a bit on the following song to Love and Maple Syrup: Cabaret. Lots of references to California in there. Also Biscuit City is another one. Makes one wonder why Gord has sung so much about California. (Hey, now don't anybody get offended by me asking...I'm coming down there next week) As well, it seems Gord always starts his tours there. Coincidence????I don't think so!

Richard likes California, too, and we've been talking about it. And the way he framed his post, it just brings a smile to your face. Well, it did to mine. In any event, he and I understand, right, Richard?!

nelsonaddison 04-19-2005 09:45 AM

Does California have cactuses?

Sheryl 04-19-2005 10:22 AM

Sure. Ever hear of the Mojave (pronounced "Mo-ha-vee") desert? It's about 1 3/4 hours north of Los Angeles. Also the Anza Borrega desert. That's near San Diego. Actually, the San Fernando Valley is a low desert, as is the Mojave desert. Bringing water into the San Fernando Valley made it habitable. Go rent the movie, "Chinatown."

ELizabeth 04-19-2005 10:57 AM

As for the lyrics of Restless - I don't know whether he changed them from 'love' to 'do best'which he does sing on the DVD or whether he sang the wrong word . But then he also changed some of the lyrics on 'Early Mornin' Rain' on the DVD - from 'where the cold wind blows' to'pain that evergrows'. Purposeful change or mistake? I don't know.

Hi Patti,
I've heard Gord sing "Do" as opposed to "Love" in concert as well so I suppose it was by design. Maybe it's just that he likes a change from time to time. And speaking of trivia (I was, wasn't I?) how about the line on "The Lost Children" from "faded lips and eyes to blue" to "lips of blue and eyes of blue". Oh well....
Yes, Sheryl..."California Dreaming....." (one more week!) Is the group settled on three hours prior to the concert getting together and meeting at the "main" entrance to the theatre...which I presume would be inside the casino? I'll be tossing a Canadian Loonie into the air so you can recognize me. Very much looking forward to the event.
Sheryl, please don't forget to post a few notes late Sunday evening on your concert. (if it was great, I'll look for the white smoke signals.)
Richard

Wait! I'll have to put up the chimney pipe first! And... I just asked my Canadian husband, "What's a Canadian Loonie?" He has no idea. Isn't a loon a bird? What -- are you going to be tossing a stuffed animal into the air?! John -- didn't you say you were going to do badges for me at the Agoura Hills location?? We should wear our badges... In lieu of no badges, I'll be the girl who looks like my picture (LOL!) and is carrying a green purse. oooh, mysterious! YES! 3 hours before the show... in front of showroom entrance!! Can't wait! <squealing> EEEEEEEK!

nelsonaddison 04-21-2005 07:37 AM

Hi Richard,
I was probably just imagining things. "Do or "Love". Don't matter. I think the Loon is the Minnesota state bird. And the Sugar Maple is the Wisconsin state tree. I heard that there are people in California.

a loonie is a canadian one dollar coin. a twoniie (toonie) is a two dollar coin. we no longer have paper bills for one and two dollar denominations. we may be looking at a 5 dollar coin soon...We have just had a new two dollar coin circulated with Terry Fox on it. the first time any one other than the quuen has been on a canadian coin that is in circulation.

Hi Charlene,
Phew, glad we got that straightened out for our American friends before next week! Thanks!
Perhaps we can look forward to Gord's face on a coin sometime....well, if it has to be, I'd settle for a stamp.
By the way, Charlene, did you ever receive a Gord quiz from me; I sent you one since you did ask for "donations". It was kind of fun making it, and I wanted to make it a challenge for those who think of them selves as the true guru's of Gord. (there's an alliteration for you!)

Hi Char,
I will, once the adrenelin has diminished from the Massey Hall shows. Besides, we need to give people a chance to prepare for their Gord finals. Would you like me to send it in the quiz dept. or just here?
