Well, I missed Sunday night but I was there in the third row on Monday. Great night. He was in fine form. There were no mishaps except for one or two changed lines which is not unusual in concert. Gord seemed relaxed, and enjoyed some banter with the audience. I thought he seemed very strong in his performance. The vocals sounded like the Gord we all know. Perhaps, he's not projecting quite the same way, but honestly, he sounded great. Here are the songs he played:
1. All the lovely Ladies 2. Spanish Moss 3. Let it Ride 4. Minstrel of the Dawn 5. Rainy Day People 6. In my Fashion 7. Harmony 8. Triangle 9. Cotton jenny 10. Wreck of the Edmund Fitzgerald 11. Sundown 12. If you could Read my Mind 13. Clouds of Loneliness 14. Bitter Green (yup, I'm not pulling your leg. He had promised he would play it for a nurse who had asked) 15. On the High Seas 16. Old Dan's Records 17. Early Morning Rain (Encore) I was thrilled to hear a few that I hadn't heard for quite some time (bitter green, high seas). Harmony and Clouds of Loneliness sounded wonderful. Great tone and blending of the instruments. He joked around about Jacob Hoggard from Canadian Idol. And talked about his experiences in the hospital. He expressed his gratitude to the staff at the hospital for what they do. He received a standing ovation at the beginning and the end. I think that things are looking great. The Massey Hall concerts will be excellent. By the way, I received confirmation that the May dates are set. Gotta go to bed now. Good night |

Thanks so much, you lucky guy! I'm a little surprised he didn't play more from Harmony, but those were great choices. Oh, to wait until May!

Oh how wonderful! He looks great and I am sure he sounds great! Am counting the days until April when he comes to So Cal.
Love ya Gordo!!! God bless the docs and hospital staff for taking SUCH good care of him! m. |
Auburn Annie:
I spoke with a member of his staff. I had metioned to someone beside me that he is "probably going to be playing at Massey in May." To this the staff member who was on the stage at the time said "yes he's playing Massey in May; I know the dates." Knowing that he did not have the authority to announce the dates, and being the polite guy that I am I said, "oh, well that's great. I'll wait until they're announced." I also spoke with Barry Keane who acknowledged that we would be able to see each other in May. So even though I didn't dig to find out what the dates were, it was clear to me that Gord's staff all know when they're playing. Nice review MM,
Can't add much to that since we were sitting in the same row. But one thing I can add since I was there Sunday & Monday is that "Sunday was great BUT Monday was about 10 X better" So what's ten times great ? On Monday most of the rust was gone and he looked and sounded strong as an ox, eh? Bill http://www.corfid.com/ubb/smile.gif |
MM... how did you snag that one? http://www.corfid.com/ubb/biggrin.gif I never bothered hanging around long after the concert because I figured there was no point based on my experience with the Moody Blues back in June...
Normally the band is available after a gig but as this was the first biggie, didn't think there was much point with all the VIPS and what not. I'll keep this in mind come May... Gord |

I had no trouble in 2002 when I got my autograph. Gordon is quite accessible that way. http://www.corfid.com/ubb/cool.gif
He didn't sing "End Of All Time"? http://www.corfid.com/ubb/frown.gif I know I sound addicted to the song but that's one I'd really like to hear "live". http://www.corfid.com/ubb/wink.gif ------------------ "A knight of the road, going back to a place where he might get warm." ;) - Borderstone |

I didn't feel right "crashing" the party http://www.corfid.com/ubb/smile.gif |

Gord did a fair imitation of of Jacob, sang a bar or two of Sundown in Jacob's "voice" was hilarious. and when it got a good laugh, he did it again. He was definitely into having some fun http://www.corfid.com/ubb/smile.gif

Janice - I was the official translator for Bill and others when they required clarification when Gaby or I or Sir John said something they didn't get....

I had to laugh too when Gord said that Jacob should go and perform on broadway. But that he needs to "take that thing out of his lip."

ok, ok, who is Jacob?

But now I can't stop talking like y'all, LOL. Bill http://www.corfid.com/ubb/smile.gif |
Jacob was a contestant on Canadian Idol-There was a week of the contestants signing Lightfoot songs and Gord was there to help them and be in the audience. Jacob had a lip ring and was a bit "out there"-Broadway is waiting for him. Gord's imitation was dead on and very funny.
Now Bill - i NEVER once said y'all! I did say "where's that damned waitress?" tho! lol |
